Responsibilities
Atlassian is hiring a principal data scientist to join our People Insights team, a group of analysts, data scientists, behavioral scientists, researchers and business partners, who use data and research to inform strategic and operational issues facing our leaders, teams, and people. You will collaborate with business and people leaders across Atlassian to understand the people insights needed to make decisions, and collaborating with others on the People Insights team to deliver. You will report to the Head of People Insights.
In this role, you will:

  • Deeply understand the needs of our business stakeholders, translate those needs into analytical and research projects, and deliver science-backed insights and recommendations to drive action
  • Collaborate with behavioral scientists, data scientists and others to deliver insights in a way that is scalable, meets stakeholder needs and is actionable.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to business leaders on high priority projects tied to company objectives.
  • Take complex analyses and insights and present them in a way that is clear and relevant to your stakeholders with behavioral scientists, business partners and others to understand the people insights needed to drive decision-making at Atlassian, and design products and insights in a way that motivates and inspires action.
  • Learn from and collaborate with other Data Scientists, and mentor others on the team.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications / Your background:

  • 8+ Years of Experience in Data Science or related fields
  • Proficiency in SQL AND another data manipulation programming language (e.g Python, R)
  • Expertise at telling stories with data and familiarity with at least one visualization tool (e.g. Tableau, R-Shiny, Microstrategy, SAP Business Objects, Looker, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience working with people data (e.g., survey data, HR data, psychological study data, human behavior data) in an applied setting
  • Proven ability to translate data into compelling and easy-to-understand insights, stories, and narratives that resonate with a non-technical audience
  • Experience driving projects or programs which have had proven impact on business strategy and performance through your analytics skills
  • A proven track record for crafting analysis into well-written and persuasive content
  • Experience advising, presenting to and serving as a thought partner to senior executives


Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience of advanced statistical methods (e.g., could include: regression, cluster analysis, HLM, social network analysis, text analysis, longitudinal methods, etc.)
  • An understanding of the SaaS business model and key metrics


Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $231,600 - $308,800
Zone B: $208,400 - $277,900
Zone C: $192,200 - $256,300
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
