We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer with deep database engine knowledge who is passionate about solving complex problems related to database infrastructure at scale to join the Bitbucket SRE team.
You are someone who is aware of the latest database industry trends, particularly those related to reliability and scale. You will own technical standards and collaborate with your teams to lead initiatives to enhance database performance and reliability, and contribute to the overall success of the technology stack and future product scale. You will also conduct deep root cause analysis for critical issues, designing and implementing corrective actions to mitigate future occurrences.
We'd also love it if you brought a deep understanding of modern Cloud infrastructure, programming expertise, operational experience and a desire to change the status quo!
On your first day, we'll expect you to have
- 3+ years of experience working with high-volume OLTP databases.
- 3+ years of experience with public cloud relational database offerings (Amazon RDS / Aurora, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL).
- Proficiency in scalability and performance tuning databases, with a strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals.
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and complex query optimization.
- Good knowledge and development experience in one or more prominent languages such as Java, Go or Python.
- Excellent communication skills in written and verbal forms, and an ability to communicate complex technical issues to a range of technical and non-technical audiences (management, peers, clients).
It would be great, but not mandatory if you had
- Experience handling multi-zone or cross-region high-availability systems.
- Experience in building using non-database public cloud offerings (AWS components like EC2, CloudFormation, IAM, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis - or equivalents, e.g. in GCP or Azure).
- Experience creating detailed technical documentation.
- Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners and collaborate with cross-functional development teams and stakeholders.
