Summary Generated by Built In

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same. .
The Role
The Square Retail team is focused on building remarkable tools for small businesses like your local wine shop, clothing boutique or corner convenience store. Running a retail business is complex, from managing inventory to selling online, and we're committed to tackling that complexity on behalf of our sellers. We are looking for a passionate designer who is excited to create meaningful change for small business owners, giving them time back to focus on what matters most.
As a Senior Product Designer on the Retail team, you will take projects from beginning to end and create vision work to inform the product roadmap. You will design solutions that enable small business owners with complex item catalogs to more efficiently run and grow their business with Square.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and adjacent design teams to deliver remarkable solutions that are tailored to retailers and integrate seamlessly with the Square platform. You will report to the Retail Design Lead.
We are aiming to build a design team that mirrors the inclusivity of the Square seller community and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. We also welcome you to share any personal experiences that inform your empathy for our sellers, including firsthand experience in hospitality.
You Will

  • Collaborate closely with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to shape a vision and roadmap, turning complex problems into simple and engaging solutions.
  • Propose design and product opportunities and own projects from concept through release.
  • Advocate for our sellers and maintain a principled, customer-centric approach throughout each project, using data, insights, and experience to inform decisions.
  • Build connections across teams and disciplines to improve the cohesiveness of all of our experiences.

You Have

  • At least 7 years of relevant professional design experience
  • A portfolio of multiple shipped projects on which you were the primary designer
  • Experience working on challenging, wide-reaching projects for your team. You know when to go deep on a problem and create a comprehensive vision.
  • Formulated ideas, strategies, and roadmaps, and presented to teams and partners
  • The ability to work with your leadership peers, progress conversations, and identify next steps
  • Inspired the vision for the product and achieve it through design explorations, interactive prototypes, documentation, and presentations to bring the team along
