The Team You Will Join
The Retirement & Income Solutions ("RIS") business is part of MetLife's U.S. Business. RIS delivers business-to-business retirement and benefit funding solutions in specialized financial and insurance markets.
The Opportunity
This role is primarily responsible for developing, filing with regulatory authorities, and issuing forms for RIS' Risk Solutions business. The Risk Solutions business services various types of life insurance products such as COLI, BOLI and other post-retirement benefits. Forms primarily include contracts, amendments, certificates, letters of agreement and separate account memoranda of operations.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in critical thinking, problem-solving and researching regulatory requirements. This position will require being able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and, at times, providing feedback in a time-sensitive manner. We take customer service mindset to how we operate, with our customers being the internal business units we provide contracts services to.
This is an exciting position because you will go beyond working on insurance contracts but have opportunities to be a part of larger projects and initiatives across RIS.
Success in this role requires advanced capabilities with the MS Office suite of applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Having 5 - 7 years of experience in a paralegal, compliance or similar type role in financial services, will be beneficial. The Contracts Development Consultant is responsible for Prepping filing submission documentation, and responses to insurance regulators' questions and requests, primarily related to life insurance policies (e.g. COLI/BOLI). The position will also require understanding and interpretation of state insurance laws and how to perform research.
You'll collaborate closely with product, actuarial and legal stakeholders in an environment where every contribution is respected, and every perspective is heard.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills.
  • Strong team player and collaborator
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to engage constructively with associates of various disciplines and levels as well as with insurance department regulators .
  • Outcome-focused and deadline oriented.
  • Ability to interact and work collaboratively and constructively with people at various levels within RIS and with regulators at state departments of insurance
  • Strong interest in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, including digital/automated business solutions, integrating technology and process improvements.
  • Competent level of contract knowledge and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and procedures for the development and filing of compliant contract forms associated with group life and annuity business


What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)

  • Paralegal or similar legal experience.
  • 5-7 years of contract development, compliance, legal or relevant industry experience.
  • Group life insurance experience a bonus.
  • Experience managing projects


The salary range for applicants for this position is 71,600 - 90,000.
