The Team You Will Join
US Strategy works across MetLife's US lines of business, Group Benefits, Retirement Income Solutions and MetLife Holdings to execute on high priority business objectives. US Strategy supports the President of the US Business to set, refresh, and communicate the strategy and drive critical initiatives. We work with leaders across the US Business and partner organizations to solve business problems and drive change. This team is laser focused on execution, leading complex transformational initiatives to deliver on business priorities.
Key functions of the team include:

  • Contribute to the execution and advancement of US Business strategy which includes coordinating with business and functional partners to lead strategic initiatives across US Business lines.
  • Serve as an in-house consulting group to be deployed on a range of complex topics, specifically leading multi-workstream high impact initiatives from ideation through execution.
  • Evaluation of opportunities, the identification and prioritization of large-scale organic and inorganic (M&A or strategic partnership) initiatives that will accelerate the growth of the US Business.
  • Help identify, analyze, and prioritize potential new business opportunities (adjacencies, white spaces) and support their progress through our governance, procurement and IT risk assessment processes.
  • Conduct analyses and develop formal business cases in support of opportunities.
  • Work with the business to ensure the appropriate OKRs (objectives and key results) are identified and tracked.
  • Maintain an external orientation, keeping a pulse on non-traditional competitors, insurtechs that may be beneficial for advancing MetLife's capabilities.
  • Support the US Business deployment of the agile delivery model.
  • Execution and governance of US Strategy's large programs.


The Opportunity
The AVP, US Strategy will be responsible for independently leading multiple workstreams within broad transformation or growth initiatives. The AVP will utilize a consulting approach to analyze financial, contractual, and operational data to identify opportunities, develop solutions based on quantitative analysis and qualitative assessments, create business cases and presentations for senior management. The AVP will also be responsible for driving the execution of initiatives in partnership with business, technology, and operational partners.
How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future:

  • Lead cross-functional teams on high visibility complex projects or workstreams from ideation through execution, which require considerable resources and high levels of functional integration.
  • Work independently to scope, define and coordinate initiatives in support of business strategy.
  • Work with large data sets, develop financial models, create business cases and prepare ROI analysis as necessary for senior management.
  • Focus on helping the business solve problems and answer key questions through close interaction with senior leadership.
  • Maintain understanding of the megatrends impacting the industry and customer experience and their effect on MetLife, develop insights and perspectives to share with senior leadership.
  • Create clear and concise verbal and written communications to support strategic business plans and initiatives.


What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • A deep understanding of the financial services industry, ideally with some exposure to insurance and/or retirement services either through direct work in those industries or management consulting projects.
  • Mastery of the 'management consulting toolkit'.
  • Prior experience in projects that require detailed execution. Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to structure and break down problems, organize and lead problem solving sessions, create compelling and pithy communications materials, etc.
  • Must possess business maturity, strong presence, and advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to engage across multiple functions and business units.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage consensus at various levels and cultivate strategic internal relationships across a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate without formal direct authority, consultative in approach; diplomatic.
  • Organized and detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • A critical thinker, with the ability to make fact-based recommendations and synthesize multiple inputs to glean business implications for the broader picture.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to tailor them to executive audiences.
  • Strong influencing skills, no direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • BA required.


What Will Give You an Edge (Additional Skills):

  • MBA or Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience at a top tier consulting firm or in a strategic planning function at a Fortune 500 firm.
  • Prior insurance or financial services experience is a plus but not mandatory.


Salary Range: The wage range for applicants for this position is between $154,700 and $206,300.
