About the Role:
As the Head of FinanceTech, you will lead the strategy, implementation, and optimization of technology solutions that support Gusto’s financial, legal and compliance operations. Reporting to the CIO, you’ll oversee a range of critical capabilities, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and innovation across financial and compliance processes. This is a pivotal leadership role that requires strategic vision and hands-on expertise to enable Gusto’s continued growth and operational excellence.
About the Team:
The FinanceTech team is composed of talented individuals with a broad range of experience, from deep technical development expertise to sharp systems analyst acumen. Together, they form a dynamic and collaborative unit dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions for Gusto's finance, legal, and compliance needs.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Create and execute a technology roadmap for Finance, Legal and Compliance systems that aligns with business objectives and supports long-term scalability.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Compliance, and IT leadership to prioritize and deliver on key initiatives.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and management of solutions across: Procure to Pay, Expense Management, Record to Report, Financial Planning and Analysis, Order to Cash, and Legal and Compliance enablement.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce operational overhead.
- Be a thought leader in driving productivity through AI and automations across the full systems and processes landscape.
- Ensure integration between finance systems and other platforms (e.g., CRM, payroll processing systems, data warehouses).
- Build and lead a high-performing FinanceTech team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements and ensure audit readiness across all systems.
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to uphold controls and mitigate risks.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.
- 10+ years overall experience in FinanceTech, Business Applications, IT leadership, or a related role with significant experience managing financial systems in dynamic organizations.
- 5+ years of FinanceTech leadership (or related) experience at a public company is a must.
- Ideal candidate will have Fintech industry experience and has successfully navigated an IPO.
- Proven track record of strategic and tactical leadership that drive business growth and efficiency. Has successfully implemented, optimized and integrated ERP platforms and related enterprise financial systems & tools.
- Deep knowledge of internal compliance controls (IT General Controls) that are related to SOX, SOC 1, and SOC 2.
- Deep knowledge of financial processes, including procurement, expense management, reporting, and revenue operations.
- Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $210,000/yr to $235,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $250,000/yr to $275,000/yr for San Francisco, New York & Seattle. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
