The role of Director of Legal Operations and Business Services is to manage the US Law Department's operations, technology, and critical services effectively and efficiently. The Director will define and implement improvements to the operations of the US Law Department, partnering with HR, Procurement, Communications, IT, and Finance. The Department operations include, but are not limited to onsite business services, HR support, end user technology support and training, knowledge and document management, legal research support, internal communications support, resource access and vendor management, Continuing Legal Education (delivery and management of) and maintenance of Department's policy and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly assesses the operations of the US Law Department and devises strategies to improve or streamline. Manages the team to execute these strategies.
  • Specifically, the Director:
    • Translates senior management's vision and supports strategy execution, aligns service levels, and tracks business objectives;
    • Communicates strategy and objectives to staff; and
    • Manages the team to execute the strategies and business objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Manages relationships with MetLife partners to facilitate effective and efficient business-as-usual activities of Legal Affairs, including partnering with:
    • HR, procurement, and IT to onboard and offboard permanent and temporary associates;
    • Procurement, Finance, IT to assess vendor relationships to provide cost-effective services;
    • IT and GOSC IT Support on end user technology training and support
    • IT on the building, testing and deployment of various technologies used across the department.
  • Manages the various service groups of the unit including office services, the Knowledge and Information services, and Technology Management. The Director will manage these groups as follows:
    • Office services, provides space management, equipment provision and coordinating equipment maintenance, and office services (including scanning, copying, supply provisions).
    • The Knowledge & Information Services provides information, research, and access to Legal Affairs. The Director leads the team to manage, train, and deploy these resources efficiently and effectively.
    • Technology management is responsible for developing and overseeing technology usage and the creation, storage, and sharing of information. This team oversees technology system selection, design, and implementation, and creates protocols to manage data quality.
  • Assists the Chief of Legal Operations in monitoring the budget of the Law Department. The Director will manage the department's budget and provide analysis to the Chief of Operations concerning the Department's supplies, periodicals, memberships.
  • Provide additional operational support to the Department as needed.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and act upon opportunities to improve services delivery and best practices to drive efficiency and overall effectiveness;
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading projects on time and on budget while delivering value based on initial scope and requirements;
  • Interaction with Senior Management and clients requires excellent oral/written communication skills;
  • Knowledge and experience managing budgets, analyzing financial data, and generating financial reports;
  • Experience with and understanding of legal processes and technology;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • 10 + years of legal operations and/or legal technology experience
  • 1 0+ years of managerial experience


Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Masters preferred

The salary range for applicants for this position is 123800 to 165000.
