About Spark Advisors

We’re Spark, a mission-driven company helping independent Medicare brokers build the insurance business of their dreams. The vast majority of beneficiaries select benefits with the help of an independent broker, but technology and support for brokers is woefully antiquated. We provide workflows and services to help brokers achieve transformative growth.

In just four years, we’ve partnered with over 5,000 brokers and enrolled over 140,000 beneficiaries, making us the fastest-growing Medicare brokerage in the country. Brokers love us: during this period of intense growth, we’ve maintained an NPS of 91 and a client retention rate of 93%, and we’ve helped brokers grow on average >100% since partnering with us.

It’s an exciting time to be at Spark. Our diverse, remote-first team comes from leading technology, healthcare, and insurance companies, and has grown from 40 to 70 in the last year. Most recently, we’ve raised a Series B from leading investors who share our ambition.

Join us: we’re always on the lookout for sharp, talented, empathetic teammates.

Summary

Spark is looking to bring on a Data Operations Associate to help us model and improve our data. Historically, the industry has had a lack of transparency, however, Spark is on a mission to change that and you can be a key part of the change by helping Spark and our customers wrangle, structure and improve the quality of our data.

In this role, you will be responsible for improving some of the core datasets that power our business. You will take data from its raw form, inherently messy and non-standardized, and run processes that clean and standardize that data. You will learn to understand what different data sets mean, where they come from, and regularly aggregate that data for the organization. As a valuable member of the Spark Data function, you will collaborate closely with data, product, engineering, carrier relations, and other organizations across Spark to deliver these datasets.

What you’ll do

  • Manage & audit agent, partner, and client health data, ensuring we can track effectively across the organization and provide timely external reports
  • Use BI and Analytics tools to monitor data quality and catch data issues before our customers do
  • Dive into data quality issues, using your knowledge of the business to understand issues and correct them
  • Coordinate directly with insurance carriers to understand and debug data issues
  • Automate manual processes to improve both internal team productivity and agent experience
  • Partner with data and engineering teams to ensure high quality data and efficient data ingestion and processing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to better understand the complexities of the business and orient data processes around those complexities

What we need

  • 1+ years of operations, consulting, or data experience using Excel
  • Additional technical experience with tools like SQL, Python or BI tools
  • Ability to learn new tools and pick up technical concepts quickly
  • Proven grit needed to navigate complex and messy data problems
  • An eye for detail, able to identify small details out of place
  • Experience following and giving feedback on standardized processes
  • Strong communication skills for working cross-functionally with various teams
  • Ability to understand complex business logic and translate into technical processes
  • Ability to continuously refine processes, adopt new technologies, and incorporate feedback

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Spark. In accordance with New York City, Colorado, California, and other applicable laws, Spark is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is listed below. We expect most candidates to fall in the middle of the range. We also believe that your personal needs and preferences should be taken into consideration, so we allow some choice between equity and cash.
