We are seeking a Personal Finance Staff Writer to play a key role in expanding our evergreen content with the purpose of helping consumers make important financial decisions. 

 

The Staff Writer will write high-quality articles educating consumers, collaborate across teams to ensure articles are optimized in such areas as compliance and monetization, and contribute to Fortune's short- and long-term editorial strategy in the personal finance space. This role requires balancing news SEO (Google Discover, trending topics) with evergreen content creation and optimization while assisting in high-impact projects to future-proof Fortune against AI-driven search disruptions. 

 

Preference for New York-based candidates who can work from the Fortune HQ but qualified remote candidates will be considered. 

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Research financial products and compile data points.  
  • Assist with building ranking methodologies.  
  • Write/update 3-5 articles per week and fine-tune them according to an editor’s direction. 
  • Have a strong commitment to accuracy and transparency in your content.  
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening with interest rates, the Federal Reserve, and related topics impacting consumers. 
  • Be attuned to SEO trends and best practices and comfortable working with tools such as Semrush and Ahrefs. 
  • Have a keen attention to detail and a drive to ensure your articles are rigorously accurate and stand out from the competition.  
  • Be comfortable interviewing expert sources for quotes and insights as needed. 
  • Have a network of expert sources in the personal finance space. 

Required 

  • 3+ years of experience covering personal finance topics. 
  • Well versed in writing about personal finance topics including banking, mortgages, personal loans, investing and more. 
  • Experience writing content types including rankings, reviews, and evergreen explainers. 
  • An excellent grasp of AP Style and English grammar. 
  • The ability to adapt your writing to fit with Fortune’s style and readership. 
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency working with Google Sheets and Excel. 
  • The ability to collaborate across teams to optimize content. 
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple assignments. 
  • Familiarity working in WordPress or a similar CMS. 

Salary Range: $85,000 - 100,000. This range is a good faith estimate and may ultimately vary based on a number of relevant factors.
