Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is looking for a Site/System Reliability Engineer to join the Production Platforms team inside the Engineering Services organization.
The Production Platforms team is responsible for building features and ensuring services operate reliably at a high scale, while optimizing other attributes such as infrastructure and operations costs in near real-time using public cloud and open source technologies. We work in a highly collaborative yet fundamentally self-directed environment striving to realize business objectives with pragmatic and robust solutions.
As a Site/System Reliability Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in a highly performant and geographically dispersed team. Our team is dedicated to building internal tooling that is used organization-wide, ensuring reliability for our technology platform. In this role, you will ensure our products are highly performant, available, and facilitate operational efficiency. You will contribute to creating software that empowers operators to troubleshoot and resolve customer-impacting issues independently, as well as support internal testing and development of integrations with our services platform.
Responsibilities:

  • Work within a geographically dispersed team of developers building software in a collaborative and agile environment
  • Build and maintain full-stack internal tools used across the organization for optimized performance and reliability
  • Participate in the full-lifecycle of software development (requirements gathering, designing, building, testing and maintenance)
  • Support Agile practices within your squad, participating in ceremonies such as standup and planning
  • Use AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Route53, CloudFront, etc.)
  • Contribute to an inclusive culture that values learning and development, close collaboration between team members, and strives for excellence


Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent qualifications
  • Intermediate programming skills in Python, ReactJS
  • Experience building RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with cloud computing such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Understanding of source control concepts and exposure to Git or other code repository/hosting solution
  • Exposure to build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience collaborating with team members
  • Self-learner, independent, excellent problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Partner with other engineering teams to deliver best solutions
  • Proven architectural skills and ability to communicate about software processes, architectures and design patterns.
  • Implement best practices to continually increase performance and scalability
  • Experience with GraphQL based services
  • Knowledge and experience with AWS cloud costs, management of capacity, and optimization strategies
  • Understanding of concurrency and asynchronous architecture


Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

The hiring range for this position in New York or California is $118,000 to $158,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
