Senior Software Engineer, PHP

Acuity Scheduling's mission is to help appointment-based businesses start and grow their service by allowing clients to directly schedule appointments, removing administrative burden and giving our users more time to focus on what they love doing. We are a distinct brand and platform within the Squarespace suite of products.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer for our Growth team. Growth specializes in enhancing the user experience for prospective users, focusing on marketing and activation projects to support our mission that Acuity is the best scheduling platform for their business.

You will report to our Engineering Team Manager and have the option to work onsite, hybrid, or fully remote. Acuity is headquartered in New York City.

You'll Get To…

• Develop new features for Acuity Scheduling, a PHP and React application, with a focus on backend or full-stack contributions
• Write server-side production code for our high-volume, available applications, develop rapid prototypes for new features, and guide our technical designs forward
• Scale and improve the performance of the application and database
• Collaborate with other engineers, product, design, analytics, research, and customer operations to understand why we build the features we do
• Practice and be a mentor for disciplined software engineering (e.g. automated testing, code reviews, and writing elegant, readable code)

Who We're Looking For

• 5+ years of software development experience in PHP, or Java, Python, Go or another object-oriented language, with exposure to large-scale web applications.
• A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design practices.
• A sincere commitment to creating readable code and an understanding of database schema design, caching, and scalability.
• A desire to lead projects and solve challenges with an open mind for learning.
• A degree in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience in frontend development using React or a comparable JavaScript framework is preferred, but not required.

Cash Compensation Range: $118,000 - $198,000 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), all Squarespace employees are eligible to receive equity in the company as part of their total compensation.
