At January, we're transforming the lives of borrowers by bringing humanity to consumer finance. Our data-driven products empower financial institutions to streamline their collections, providing borrowers with straightforward and compassionate solutions to regain financial stability and control over their lives. We're not just expanding access to credit. We're restoring dignity and paving the way for millions to achieve financial freedom.

About the role:

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Client Integrations team, you will be a key player in designing and building the systems that facilitate seamless communication with our clients. You will ensure these systems scale as the company grows, are adaptable to changing needs, and remain reliable, performant, and compliant. Your expertise in complex data ingestion and ETL pipelines will be crucial in evolving our architecture to handle:

  • Larger clients with unique requirements
  • Increased system load
  • The growing complexity of our organization and product offerings

Challenges for this team include scaling our software services without increasing operational load. It's an exciting time to join January's engineering team as we work on leveling up our platform to handle the increased growth and complexity we'll need for years to come.

Your impact:

  • Shape the Future: Lead the design and implementation of complex data ingestion and ETL pipelines that are robust, scalable, and maintainable. Your work will be central to our ability to process and integrate vast amounts of data efficiently.
  • Innovate Daily: Champion innovation and best practices in data engineering, pushing the boundaries of technical excellence and driving continuous improvement in our data architecture.
  • Collaborate and Thrive: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Legal and Compliance, Customer Success, and other engineering teams, to ensure our data systems support seamless client integrations and uphold the highest standards of reliability.
  • Lead Major Projects: Take ownership of large-scale data projects, from planning and execution to delivery. Your leadership will ensure that these projects align with company goals and deliver significant impact.

You might be a fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on designing and building complex data ingestion and ETL pipelines.
  • Proven experience leading the planning and execution of complex projects, particularly those involving large-scale data integration and processing.
  • A deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Expertise in building scalable, efficient, and reliable data systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and familiarity with serverless architecture.
  • A strong interest in back-end development and a passion for solving complex data challenges.
  • Optional: Experience with data warehouse solutions and data lake architectures.

We encourage you to apply if you value:

  • Genuine collaboration. We recognize and explicitly reward feedback, alignment, and learning from each other
  • Managers as advocates. You’ll report to leaders invested in your growth and promotion, not just their own. Managers only succeed when their teams thrive
  • Outcomes over output. We value finding ways to do more with less, working smart instead of burning out
  • Product ownership. Engineers are owners, not mercenaries. Everyone plays a role in discovering, advocating for, and implementing product ideas
  • Technical quality. We work collaboratively with product to ensure great outcomes without sacrificing quality. Sustainable development is a first class priority

We find that candidates who perform well in this role often have 5-7 years of full-stack software development experience. However, we encourage you to apply for this role even if your experience isn’t an exact match. We value professional development and on-the-job learning!
