We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our core platform team (DevSecOps), to help drive the development of scalable and robust systems using cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.
About the role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, your responsibilities will include producing useful, economical, and best-of-breed solutions that can be picked up by development teams and DevOps engineers across the company. This position is a perfect match for a person who enjoys developing innovative solutions to technical challenges with opportunities to contribute broadly in a dynamic and collaborative team-based environment.
Specifically, you can expect to:
- First and foremost, build and scale the deployment architecture that powers Genius Sports products as we continue to grow.
- Architect and implement cloud native solutions with infrastructure as code tooling.
- Write code towards automation tooling and supporting DevOps deployment software.
- Design and implement robust telemetry for all of the services Genius Sports operates.
- Mentor and collaborate with engineers on other teams to promote DevOps best practices.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and development of new solutions to aid the development process and delivery.
- Producing high quality, maintainable, monitored and tested infrastructure and solutions.
- Troubleshooting and resolution of problems.
- Be part of the core Platform team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to other engineers, ensuring the successful delivery of projects.
- Supporting achieving the business goals of the company, collaborating closely with the rest of the engineering teams.
- Overseeing the maintenance and development of build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-infrastructure.
- Ensuring the security of cloud-hosted systems and implementing security checks for new code entering production environments.
- Developing and maintaining the core observability stack for production services, covering alerting, metrics, logging, and dashboard creation.
- Conducting constructive peer reviews of features and contributing to good reviewee hygiene.
- Monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems owned by the core Platform team, including retrospectives, live-support, bug-fixes, and security improvements.
- Maintenance and evolution of technical documentation (guides, runbooks, RCA/post-mortems, etc.).
- Mentoring and coaching engineers within the platform team and across multiple disciplines.
- Participating in and improving agile ceremonies, including planning, refining, retrospectives, and stand-ups for sprints and planning increments.
Required Skills and Experience
- AWS, Kubernetes and Software Development experience:
- Automation of repetitive tasks using scripting languages (Bash, Python, NodeJs, Powershell, etc.)
- Practical knowledge of at least one programming language (C++, C#, Java, JS, Kotlin, Python, PHP, Golang)
- Knowledge of container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or ECS.
- Ability to lead and execute on the DevOps/Cloud engineering vision
- Technical expertise in networking, data structures, and cloud native technologies.
- Expert-level knowledge of at least one infrastructure-as-code language (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Detailed knowledge of building observable systems and understanding the fundamentals of cohesive dashboard design.
- Detailed knowledge of build systems and building containerized applications.
- Understanding of continuous delivery principles, including feature-switching, canary releases, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of core security principles and their application in continuous delivery systems.
- Flexibility to work on all areas of the service stack, including front-end, back-end, and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with messaging and asynchronous communication technologies.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Knowledge and interest in sports.
- Knowledge of testing methodology and designing high-quality testing suites resilient to changes in implementation.
- Understanding of the principles of good software design, including awareness of core concepts such as information hiding, abstraction, module design, cohesion, and coupling.
- Experience in capturing and exposing productivity signals to the engineering team.

The base salary range for this role is $175,000 – $200,000. There are a number of factors which affect what the specific pay offer would be for this role, including location, seniority, and relevant educational and working experience. This is base salary only – all full-time roles will also be eligible to take part in Genius Sports benefits and equity plan, and some roles may be eligible to take part in a bonus plan.
