Business Insider is hiring a Senior Editor for our Newsletters team to edit and manage new, business-focused newsletters as we expand our portfolio. The senior editor will be part of a team that’s shaping the future of how BI readers consume our journalism each day.
Our dynamic Newsletters team has spent the last two years building up Business Insider Today, our flagship that reaches more than 1 million readers each day, and we’re gearing up to expand our portfolio. The senior editor would play a key role in these expansion efforts, helping us increase our reach and boost routine with readers obsessed with all things business, tech, and innovation.
The Senior Editor will lead the daily production of new newsletters in a fast-paced, high-visibility role. They’ll work in close collaboration with the correspondents leading these newsletters — helping brainstorm ideas and editing their work. They’ll manage daily operations, including building, testing, and scheduling. They’ll be expected to juggle multiple tasks at once, pivot quickly as news breaks, and work cross-functionally to get the newsletters into inboxes.
The role will report into the Deputy Editor of Newsletters. This role is located in New York City, with the editor expected to work from our office at 1 Liberty Plaza at least three days a week.
Key responsibilities:
- Edit the correspondents writing our new newsletters, ensuring each edition is conversational, timely, and smart. Contribute additional writing support as needed.
- Brainstorm story ideas and new newsletter sections with the correspondents.
- Collaborate closely with our subscriptions, marketing, and product teams on list, template, and ESP management. Support audience growth initiatives.
- Manage operations (sending, building, testing, and on-site publishing) of the newsletters, overseeing the work of associate editors and fellows supporting each send.
- Manage and mentor editors and fellows as the team expands.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, providing fresh perspectives and actionable insights.
- Leverage audience feedback to continuously refine content strategy and drive growth.
The ideal candidate has:
- 5-10 years experience in a newsroom, including direct experience working on newsletters.
- A clear track record of success in business and/or financial journalism, with a particular interest in tech, markets, and the economy.
- A voracious newsletter-reading appetite.
- Deep appreciation and understanding for BI’s coverage areas and newsletter voice.
- Demonstrated skills in collaborating cross-functionally, conversational writing, multitasking, and pivoting quickly.
Salary & benefits:
- Base salary: $100,000 - $140,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
