We are hiring multiple Senior Managing Directors in New York City to fuel our growth.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing opportunities with new clients and retaining and expanding Applecart’s relationship with existing clients, which include the C-Suites of Fortune 500 companies and leading trade associations, advocacy organizations, non-profits, and investment firms. Our clients expect exceptional results from Applecart’s platform and thoughtful, strategic counsel from our Senior Managing Directors, who educate our clients and prospects on how Applecart’s platform will help them achieve their most important objectives and solve their most challenging problems. 

Applecart’s Senior Managing Directors are seasoned strategic leaders in communications, government relations, politics, or investor relations and/or C-suite advisory veterans. What You’ll Do

  • You’ll manage C-suite relationships with our sophisticated clients and prospects across the full lifecycle of an Applecart engagement, including opportunity identification, pitch, scoping, negotiations, advising on strategy and managing the account post-sale, and demonstrating results to extend and expand our relationship with clients. 
  • You’ll work with our senior advisors and product leaders to educate C-suite clients and potential clients about all the different ways Applecart’s platform can enable them to impact their business’ most important stakeholders. 
  • Leveraging your unique qualifications, you will connect Applecart's value proposition to solving our clients' challenges - driving successful outcomes for our clients and increasing revenue for Applecart.
  • You’ll closely follow news, regulatory filings and other media, looking for every opportunity to create value for clients in a timely way.
  • You’ll be our clients’ expert on-call, serving as a senior strategist, counselor and primary executive-level point of contact to decision makers at the highest levels of Fortune 500 corporate communications, public affairs, and marketing teams.
  • You’ll coordinate internal resources to deliver results that exceed client expectations, and you’ll bring in resources external to Applecart where and as necessary to maximize client chances of success

Experiences and Capabilities You Bring:

  • You have significant and deep experience being the “point person” in the room with C-level executives (or equivalent-level personae in other fields, such as senior elected officials), counseling them (and sometimes challenging them to think differently) in connection with high-stakes challenges and decisions. Some work experiences you may have had:
    • You have counseled Fortune 500 companies in corporate communications, external relations, government relations, investor relations, brand marketing, and/or public affairs as an external consultant where you were the primary relationship manager for C-Suite clients and fully responsible for revenue generation and growth with respect to those clients;
    • You have yourself been a Chief Communications Officer, Head of Government Relations, Head of Investor Relations, or other senior stakeholder; 
    • You have been a senior staff member for  elected officials or other policymakers; 
    • You have been a litigator in “bet-the-company” litigation and had to regularly interact with and convince senior client stakeholders to pursue your strategy;
    • You have been a senior multi-client lobbyist;
    • You have served in a senior role at a  trade association, advocacy organization, political action committee, university, or philanthropic organization and were responsible for persuading prominent individuals and entities to fund or join your organization; 
    • You started your own consulting, advisory, or other business where you were selling to senior stakeholders
  • While you may not think of yourself as a sales person, you sell as an everyday part of your role - for example, persuading senior, skeptical stakeholders to adopt your positions or provide funding
  • You bring experience from fast-paced, demanding work environments where you needed to be committed and dedicated to delivery excellence in a high-stakes environment, such as senior positions in government, on political campaigns, or at law, management consulting or financial services firms.  
  • You are excited about the Applecart value proposition and can see based on your past experiences how it would have benefited you or your past clients.
  • You have a deep understanding of C-suite stakeholder communications challenges faced by Fortune 500 companies.
  • You are entrepreneurial and hell-bent on delivering value to your own clients and other stakeholders.
  • You have a strong sense of “extreme ownership.” You care deeply about making an impact and think creatively and strategically about overachieving your goals.
  • You are intellectually curious. You read the news religiously and stay up-to-date on the latest corporate developments and political news, and you have a wide range of intellectual interests.
  • You are an excellent writer and verbal communicator and know how to best frame your work for C-level audiences.
  • You have impeccable attention to detail and are well-organized.
  • You possess an energetic, upbeat disposition.
  • You have an excellent sense of humor and know how to roll with the punches.
  • You are coachable and willing to do the work to learn new things quickly.

This is a hybrid role. Work from home on Monday and Friday and in Applecart’s New York City office Tuesday through Thursday. 

Compensation:

Our compensation package consists of three components: (i) a base salary, (ii) incentive cash compensation tied directly to revenue generated from revenue you generate and (iii) generous equity compensation that vests over time.

The base salary range for this role is between $200,000 and $250,000, based on the candidate's experience and skills relative to the requirements listed above.  In addition to base salary, a substantial portion of overall cash compensation for this role will consist of sales incentives tied directly to revenue generated from clients you manage. Senior Managing Directors who meet their quotas can expect to make an additional 100% of their base salary in incentive compensation. There is no cap on incentive compensation—so if you exceed your quota, you could bring home more than double your base salary in cash. The salary range provided for this role is specific to candidates located in or relocating to the Washington DC area.
