I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Senior Editor is responsible for guiding video editors throughout the editing process. Maintaining overall awareness of the team's process editing newscasts, ensuring the product meets management expectations. The Senior Editor must collaborate during every phase of editing, scripting, music, animation, etc. to ensure that the final product does not deviate from what is expected in newscasts. This requires strong communications skills, as abstract ideas must be presented and understood for everyone to be on the same page. Senior editor is also responsible for maintaining all backups and archived data in case of an emergency or loss. They must also purge the system of old files. In addition to overseeing employees, these editors must also be proficient in the editing tasks that the team is expected to fulfill and may need to fill in or work independently on certain segments to maintain pace. As such, they may also be in charge of creating and maintaining a schedule for the editing process and informing both the team of when projects should be completed.

Communicate with Video Editors, Reporters, and Photographers/MMJs in the field, establishing an approximated ETA for required VO, SOTS and/or PKGs (this needs to be done early to avoid floating stories). Collaborate with the director and studio staff to coordinate the action in the studio.

Edit Vos, Sots, Vo-Sots, Pkgs as needed. Collaborate during every phase of editing, scripting, music, animation, etc. to ensure that the final product does not deviate from what is expected in newscasts.

Maintains and stores equipment, records and tapes. This includes making sure the editing booths’ computers have enough space to perform without problems.

Operate studio graphic systems during broadcast/production.

Help management perform appraisals of video editors and assist in digital media productions, liaising with appropriate departments. May convert analog recordings, film, or printed materials to digital format; and other duties as assigned.
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Experience in television, film, or post production is preferred but not required.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Creativity and Precision: a keen eye for detail and a creative approach to video editing and storytelling.

Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly with Premiere, Photoshop, and AfterEffects.

Immersed in digital video across multiple platforms; up-to-date knowledge of video formats and aesthetics on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.

Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Proven experience fluidly communicating and collaborating with producers and project stakeholders. Ability to see spelling and grammar errors in basic text.

Ability to to identify and/or create narratives hand-in-hand with producers and consider the creative objectives and feedback of multiple stakeholders.

Deadline-Oriented: must be able to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines without compromising quality.

Professionalism: a respectful, responsible and calm attitude towards work and client interactions is highly valued.

Organized: Ensuring project organization meets Post Production best practices. Working within our Media Asset Management system (Training will be provided).
