The big picture: Axios is a media company dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We are looking for a strategic Senior Director, Head of Ad Product who will lead the strategy and evolution of the Axios ad product portfolio!
Why it matters: This new role is an expression of our priority to create distinctive ad product offerings, including display formats, branded content features, and sponsorship opportunities, that differentiate Axios in the market and drive meaningful impact for our advertising customers. The Head of Ad Product will play a critical role in designing the long-term strategy and ensuring the vision is expressed through compelling ad product experiences.
Zoom in: The Head of Ad Product will be a highly visible and impactful leadership role that drives product innovation and ad revenue growth through the following responsibilities:
- Build and execute a comprehensive ad product strategy, vision, and roadmap, including monetization milestones and targets
- Take a lead role in elevating industry awareness of Axios ad product portfolio, growing its position as a leader in this space and staying ahead of evolving media trends
- Maintain forward-looking expertise on the demands of the advertising market and where it’s headed
- Drive a clear view of the Axios ad product competitive advantage
- As product suite owner, drive product concepts from inception to launch, including conceptualizing, designing, and project managing
- Utilize data to execute data-driven product strategies that connect market demand and product performance
- With a focus on quality and results, manage the health of the ad product suite – launching, optimizing, and refreshing products as needed
- Effectively collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (including product marketing, operations, sales, and product & design teams) to drive product success
- Cultivate a high-performance team and nurture a culture where top talent thrives and diverse perspectives are valued
Details: Ideal candidates will demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, have a passion for the Axios mission, and possess the following strengths:
- 12+ years of ad product development experience in the media and publishing industry
- Ability to manage a product portfolio and prioritize short and long-term priorities
- Experience managing and developing product managers, art directors, and/or designers
- Passion for innovation, new ideas, and product transformation
- Experience contributing to and scaling products for a news or media organization
- Proven track record as a leader in building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment
- Deep understanding of the media and advertising ecosystem
- Collaborative and strategic mindset
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Comfort driving candid conversations and hard prioritization decisions
- Track record of working with and influencing high-level internal stakeholders
Starting salary for this role is in the range of $153,000 - $200,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
