About the Role:
The Senior Business Development Director is a dynamic hunter responsible for aggressively driving new business growth by identifying, prospecting, and securing high-value partnerships with health systems, integrated delivery networks, and payors. This role is highly visible and entrepreneurial, with primary accountability for expanding Octave’s health system partnership channel. The successful candidate will proactively target and engage senior health system executives to establish relationships, create deal opportunities, and negotiate partnership agreements. This role demands an enterprise sales-driven, results-oriented professional who is mission-driven, agile, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Responsibilities Include:
- Prospecting & Pipeline Development: Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities within health systems, integrated delivery networks, academic medical centers, and clinically integrated networks, proactively building a robust pipeline of prospects. Utilize various prospecting techniques to connect with decision-makers and create entry points for Octave’s partnership offerings.
- Direct Outreach & Lead Generation: Actively reach out to target health systems, IDNs, CINs, and health plans to expand Octave’s reach. Target key executives and stakeholders through direct outreach, referrals, and strategic networking.
- Deal Strategy & Closing: Drive the full sales cycle from initial outreach and relationship-building through proposal development, deal structuring, and contract negotiation, with a focus on achieving closure. Use consultative selling skills to influence decision-makers and close complex, high-value partnerships with leading health system partners.
- Market & Competitor Intelligence: Conduct strategic market analysis to identify new territories, assess competitive threats, and understand industry trends, positioning Octave as a preferred partner within the health system ecosystem.
- Strategic Partnership Development: Collaborate with Octave’s leadership, including the CPO and Head of Business Development, to refine value propositions, enhance pitch materials, and continuously improve deal strategies that resonate with health system executives.
- Sales Process Optimization: Establish and refine a scalable, repeatable partnership model that supports rapid growth. Develop and manage CRM tools, sales funnels, and reporting processes to maintain high pipeline conversion.
- Relationship Management & Expansion: Build and nurture long-term relationships with health system executives, identifying opportunities to deepen partnerships and drive sustained revenue growth.
- High-Impact Presentations: Develop and deliver compelling presentations and pitches that effectively communicate Octave’s value proposition, positioning Octave as a strategic partner for health systems and payors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years proven track record of successful consultative & solution oriented selling to health system executives (extra credit for payor/health plan selling).
- BS/BA degree or comparable professional experience.
- Experience starting or scaling a successful startup, ideally in the healthcare space.
- Experience leading and closing partnership discussions with key decision makers and executives.
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM system.
- Proven ability to prospect and open doors with new clients, with a track record of success in generating enterprise-level leads and closing high-value deals within healthcare or behavioral health.
- Exceptional ability to drive the end-to-end enterprise level sales process, from initial outreach and qualification through negotiation and close.
- Excellent ability to communicate with, and influence, enterprise clients and prospects as well as internal stakeholders.
- Strong presentation skills, including demonstrated success presenting and communicating with other executives.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and energy. Ability to quickly move from 0-1 while navigating complex health plans and health systems.
- Ability to ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- Willingness to travel to meet with clients and company leadership as needed (25%).

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with others through virtual meeting applications such as Zoom and Google Meet.
- Must be able to observe and communicate information on company provided laptop.
- Move up to 10 pounds on occasion.

Starting pay for qualified applicants will depend on a combination of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is set forth below and this range may be modified in the future.
The salary range is for zone 1 (all states not in zone 2 or zone 3) $165,200 - $178,300.
The salary range for zone 2 (CO, HI, MD, RI) is $181,700 - $196,100.
The salary range for zone 3 (AK, CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, WA) is $190,000 - $200,000.
All zones are eligible for equity in the form of stock options, plus target bonus incentives based on performance.
Additionally, this position is eligible for the following benefits: company sponsored life insurance, disability and AD&D plans. Voluntary benefits such as 401k retirement, medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, dependent care and commuter/parking options are also available. Octave offers generous Paid Time Off as well as paid parental leave benefits.
