The Role

Hungryroot is your partner in healthy living. We get to know your lifestyle, budget, health objectives, and preferences, and we recommend and deliver nutritious groceries, easy recipes and essential supplements for you and your family. It’s the easiest way to eat healthy, achieve your goals, save time at the store and in the kitchen, and live a healthy (and delicious) life. Founded on the belief that food is the foundation of health, convenience should not mean compromise, and we’re all unique in how we eat and live, Hungryroot is building a future in which healthy living is easy and enjoyable.

We are a distributed team built on top talent from over 28 states across the U.S. While we have a headquarters in New York City, we support employees working from wherever they are based. We believe in fostering team connection and collaboration across all of our employees' locations. Expect to attend regular team building events and an annual company retreat. Expect to be treated like an owner who cares about our common goal, not someone who has to clock in and out of work.

We’re looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to be a part of our growing Data Science team. You’ll be responsible for partnering directly with business teams to develop and maintain the LookML data schema in Looker to enable self-service for front-end users and Analysts to access common business data needs. Additionally, you will be responsible for building data models and performing analytics tasks for the Machine Learning and AI part of the team.
This role will join Hungryroot’s Data Science team and you’ll report to our VP of Data Science. In this critical role, you will work closely with our Analysts and Data Engineers to collaborate and design data warehouse schemas to improve our data models. The data models are designed to power Looker and other BI tools that our analysts use to understand various parts of the business and product. You will also work closely with our ML and AI team to build data models, perform analytics, build data pipelines and ensure that both the analysts and the ML/AI engineers have the right tools at hand.

  • Work with Analysts and Data Engineering team to develop data schemas in LookML and Databricks (SparkSQL)
  • Work with the ML/AI team to build data models and data pipelines in Spark Scala, PySpark and SparkSQL
  • Be our data model expert for the company, unifying the various models needed by the various parties at the company.
  • Be an implementer, and build, test, and make sure the data models are healthy, reliable, and can be trusted by the various parties at the company
  • Own the data models used by the ML/AI team, such that the online machine learning models are up to date, accurate, and perform appropriate levels of predictions

  • 4+ years SQL data analytics and/or data engineering work using Databricks (SparkSQL)
  • 4+ years of helping to maintain (not just using) a BI platform (Looker). Including building visualizations and exposing/transforming data
  • 4+ years experience building and maintaining data pipelines at large scale,  that pertain to both data analytics and machine learning
  • Knowledge of database concepts (indexes, query plans) and experience with Analytical Data Modeling
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desire to teach Analysts how to build better data schemas and visualizations
  • Contextual understanding of problems to be solved, e.g. the larger goal vs an immediate technical solution, and be able to spot a better solution as a result

  • Remote Work Optional: Work from home, work from our NYC office, work from anywhere, you decide!
  • Competitive compensation + comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • Monthly Hungryroot credit
  • Universal paid parental leave
  • 401k
  • Commuter benefits
  • A working environment filled with passionate, happy, smart people!
