Child Mind Institute: A nonprofit transforming children's lives via superior care for mental health.
The Role

Summary:
The Child Mind Institute (CMI) is seeking a Quality Assurance (QA) Lead for our NGDT (Next Generation Digital Therapeutics) group, which is focused on rapidly innovating mental health therapeutics and treatment response monitoring tools for children and adolescents using emerging technologies including augmented reality, virtual reality, and biometrics. This 20-month position will help CMI, through its partnership with California's Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), build the next generation of digital therapeutics. As part of CMI's research team, our mission is to accelerate the pace of scientific innovation and discovery in mental health and learning, and help foster collaborations that can test, improve upon, and adopt innovative solutions for the benefit of every child.
The QA Lead will own product quality across our portfolio, with a focus split between our groundbreaking MindLogger platform and emerging NGDT products. You will maintain a deep understanding of all of our products and their unique needs and use-cases. Your passion for enhancing the speed of development and process will elevate the caliber of our products and limit customer pain time (CPT). In your role as the head of product quality across all NGDT products, you'll develop, implement, and optimize processes associated with reports, bugs, and test cases. You will leverage your comprehensive understanding of all NGDT products, use-cases, and cross-functional communication with research to empower you to prioritize issue backlogs, orchestrate manual and automated test cases, and build a robust infrastructure for product support. Working closely with the Senior Engineering Director and Engineering Directors, you will assist in quality-centered communications and reporting (10%), execute and refine processes related to reports, bugs, and test cases (50%), and lead the development and enhancement of a robust QA function (40%).
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Director, this is a Full-time, exempt position located in our NYC headquarters or California office. A hybrid schedule is possible.
The Child Mind Institute is proud to be named a Great Place to Work-Certified company! Our competitive compensation and benefits include medical insurance, 401(k), paid parental leave, dependent care, flexible work schedules, discounted tickets and entertainment perks programs. For more information about our benefits, please visit our employee benefits website.
Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and enhance the quality of 4-5 digital therapeutic and data collection products, acting as the primary owner of all quality assurance processes.
  • Prioritize issue backlogs for each product to ensure timely and effective resolutions and reduce CPT.
  • Improve the development speed and product quality through definition of process, reporting, and automated testing capabilities.
  • Design and implement processes and tracking systems for reports, bugs, test cases, and customer feedback to ensure seamless and systematic quality assurance.
  • Manage support for public products post-launch, including defining support infrastructure and systems.
  • Define and own key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality, driving continual improvement and excellence.
  • Plan and orchestrate external implementation of manual and automated testing, identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance coverage.
  • Serve as the bridge between external QA teams and internal departments, facilitating communication and collaboration.
  • Operate across multiple products simultaneously, ensuring consistent quality and performance standards.
  • Mentor and uplift non-technical staff; collaborate with cross-functional teams (including external resources) for enhanced product understanding.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and 4+ years leading a QA team and managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring consistent quality assurance standards and practices OR HS Diploma and equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly organized with a knack for developing efficient systems and processes.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Notion, Confluence, and GitHub, and adaptability to new technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with test automation platforms and strategies.
  • QA or developer experience on live-service products and an understanding of the complexities associated with support.
  • Proven track record in enhancing the speed of development and the quality of products through effective QA practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to act as a liaison between external QA teams and internal departments, ensuring seamless collaboration and quality assurance.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges, with a focus on continual improvement and excellence in product quality.
