Title: Program Lead, Open Source and Open Web Initiatives (Fast Forward)

Fastly is seeking a relationship-focused leader to help scale our open-source strategic initiatives to the next stage of success.

Tens of millions of developers worldwide use Fastly to instantly power their projects, ranging from small independent startups to the Fortune 100. Many of these developers first engage with Fastly through our community investments, where Fastly provides critical infrastructure services for the world's largest Open Source, Open Web, and Open Education ecosystems. 

You’ll work closely with the large established Open Source organizations and rapidly growing new projects to provide them with Fastly services and growth strategy in promoting openness and freedom on the web. Fastly has already provided nearly $100MM in in-kind services to open source, open web, and open education initiatives, and this role will have the opportunity to exponentially expand those services and grow their impact far beyond services alone.

What You'll Do:

Work internally to unify Fastly’s open-source strategy and operational processes across the company.Design operational changes to grow our open-source and open-web partners by 3-5x in the coming yearsWe support and advise our program partners on growth, governance, and operational best practices to support their mission.Collaborate with Fastly field operations to enable storytelling at scale across our marketing, sales, and client services teams

What We're Looking For: 

  •  

At least 12 years of experience in the following areas:Building and supporting open-source products and communities.Managing high-scale governance models for open-source ecosystemsOrganizing and leading a “program of programs” model for open source or nonprofit ecosystems.A track record of creativity and tenacity to overcome roadblocks in your charter of serving millions of open-source developers. An eye for best-in-class open-source experiences and an ability to simplify program administrative workflows to enable broader accessibility

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: 


  • A portfolio of interesting side-projects or blogs that highlight your opinions, thought processes, and decision-making around delightful open-source experiences and products. 
  • Familiarity with and thoughtful opinions on modern open-source ecosystems, governance, and maintainer standards. 

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

The preferred locations for this position are:

  • New York
  • San Francisco
  • Denver

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.  

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary: 

The estimated salary range for this position is $195,720 to $234,864. 

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
