The Role
Within Block's Platform Engineering organization, our Data Platform, managed by the AI and Data Analytics team (AiDA), is designed to unlock the full potential of data by enhancing the productivity and innovation of engineers, data scientists, machine learning experts, and business teams. Our platform enables Block to scale efficiently and adapt swiftly by offering high-performance, secure, and flexible data infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of the company. Our mission is to create scalable, impactful solutions that drive business outcomes and ensure that data-driven strategies are effectively executed company-wide.
We are seeking a driven and experienced Technical Product Manager to lead the next phase of our Data Platform's evolution. In this role, you will partner with engineering teams, senior leadership, and cross-functional partners to enhance platform capabilities that empower Block's software engineers, data engineers, and business users. Your focus will be on delivering an end-to-end, user-centric experience, improving workflows across data ingestion, transformation, and analytics. You'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of products, including data pipelines and orchestration tools, while driving strategic prioritization to meet the evolving needs of the business. This role requires deep collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful, visible solutions that increase productivity, reduce operational complexity, and unlock new opportunities for Block.
You Will

  • Deeply understand customer needs, product analytics, and emerging industry trends to shape and drive a clear product vision and strategy that delivers measurable business outcomes and enhances the customer experience.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and engineering teams to develop a unified product vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with stakeholders and delivering clear priorities that solve high-impact problems for the business.
  • Lead the development of product roadmaps that translate strategic goals into actionable plans for engineering teams, ensuring a strong focus on solving the right problems and delivering value to users.
  • Foster strong collaboration with engineers and other cross-functional teams, establishing continuous feedback loops to ensure that product solutions address real user pain points and maximize impact.
  • Ensure the thoughtful evolution of the product by addressing lifecycle stages, enhancing user adoption, and refining the platform experience as customer needs and market demands evolve.
  • Help evolve our customer engagement model, communication strategy, prioritization, and planning/road-mapping practices.


You Have

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in product management, with a focus on data analytics platforms and ML platforms. Proven track record of leading successful product initiatives in a technical domain.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in one or more of the following technologies: Streaming platforms (Kafka, MSK), Compute engines (Spark, Trino), Orchestration (Airflow and similar), and Lakehouse (Iceberg, S3).
  • Ability to analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into effective product strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of bigger and smaller bets while balancing short-term goals and long-term vision
  • Strong focus on understanding user needs and delivering solutions that meet those needs.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
