Product Designer

Sage is on a mission to improve care and quality of life for older adults, starting with those residing in senior living facilities. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among adults over 65. And yet, fall prevention and emergency response systems for older adults are archaic and ineffective. At Sage we've built a more modern way of understanding when older adults need help, including methods for residents to alert caregivers when in need of help, and corresponding software for caregivers to triage response. Our company mission is to create a product that our client counterparts love, and this role is a key part of that objective.

Sage is a small, tight team of ambitious, multi-disciplinary entrepreneurs. We are a software-enabled, mission-driven company, and are focused only on the problems that are central to achieving that mission. At Sage, we work hard and fast but also know that to build a truly important company, we need to treat our work as a marathon, and not a sprint. The journey matters.

About the Role

As a Product Designer at Sage, you will lead the design of end-to-end experiences for Senior Living. You’ll collaborate with your team to define a clear vision, bring it to life through prototypes for testing, and refine it into high-fidelity designs ready for implementation. Reporting to the Head of Design, you will work closely with cross-functional teams - including product, engineering, analytics, and implementation.

Some examples of the work you'll be doing on any given day include:

  1. User-Centered Design & Research
    • You’ll lead the effort in defining design research initiatives related to your product area and seeing them through - from defining your research goals and creating an interview guide, to synthesizing your learnings and applying those to design solutions.
    • You’ll develop design tools (like journey maps and personas) to guide the team through a user-centered design process.
  2. UI/UX Design
    • You’ll be responsible for the full product development design process including, sketching, wireframing, prototyping and high fidelity designs.
    • You’ll ensure designs are accessible, intuitive and are aligned with our existing design system patterns, where appropriate.
    • You’ll collaborate with developers to ensure your designs are implemented correctly and maintain the intended user experience.
    • You have a high bar for craft and attention to detail.
    • You’ll give and solicit feedback from other designers to continually raise our bar for quality.
  3. Collaboration & Communication
    • You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and features.
    • You’ll participate in planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, providing design input throughout the product development lifecycle.
    • You’ll communicate design rationale and user research insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We Do

Sage is on a mission to improve the quality of life for older adults, starting with those residing in senior living facilities. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among adults over 65. At the same time, fall prevention and emergency response systems for older adults are archaic and ineffective. This issue is exacerbated by the inefficient procedures that operators of these facilities are forced to use to provide care to their residents. Sage's integrated software aims to reinvent how we care for and respond to older adults in times of need. We aim to build a platform that gives caregivers the means to provide care for modern aging.
