Job Description

Principal – Investor Services

Summary

Ares Management is looking to hire a Principal for the Global Client Solutions (“GCS”) team in New York City. Investor Services is expanding its team to support the firm’s strategic objectives related to fundraising and client service.  Investor Services acts as a centralized point of contact for external clients, internal teams and service providers on investor data, onboarding, inquiry management and data rooms across all business lines at Ares (credit, private equity, real assets, infrastructure, secondaries and strategic initiatives). This is a unique opportunity to join a growing team that is defining new processes, building technologies and launching enterprise-wide functions.

The individual will be focused on leading and directly supporting strategic initiatives across the firm impacting the investor lifecycle, technology and process enhancement and ongoing data management. The individual will also act as an advisor to and partner with the regional Investor Services team leads to support day-to-day processes around data room contact and document maintenance, investor inquiries, investor onboarding and ad hoc projects. The individual must have a deep knowledge of the investor lifecycle and onboarding processes at an alternative asset manager. This role requires a dynamic, adaptive, and proactive leader with experience leveraging technology to improve internal processes and the investor experience.

  • Reports to: Managing Director, Head of Investor Services

Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities​

  • Drive development and implementation of strategic initiatives related to the investor services process and technology enhancements, including investor data maintenance and investor portal.
  • Partner with cross-strategy teams, including Relationship Management and Product Management, to identify and prioritize enhancements to the investor experience.
  • Contribute to developing, implementing, documenting and training on procedures, utilizing technology to create and improve processes ​to drive change.
  • Synthesize complex concepts and data into clear, concise, and actionable summary-level reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with global teams across Finance, Accounting, Legal, Tax, Compliance, and Technology to streamline existing and new processes.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Mentor team members, create and provide training on industry and functional expertise.
  • Serve as escalation point for day-to-day processes including data room contact and document maintenance, investor inquiries, investor onboarding and ad hoc projects.
  • Serve as key relationship contact and oversight of third-party Fund Administrators’ Investor Services / Transfer Agent teams​.
  • Build a strong network across the firm and with external vendors to facilitate strong collaboration and promote best practices across business operations groups including Technology, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Fund Administrators and External Counsel.

Qualifications​

General Requirements: ​

  • Problem solver with ability to research solutions, identify potential resolutions and lead a team through successful execution​.
  • Critical thinker with ability to think creatively to resolve issues​.
  • Comfortable and capable of managing multiple priorities from multiple sources, including internal and external requestors​.
  • Strong team player who enjoys collaboration and working cross-functionally to drive change​.
  • Work experience in a position requiring a high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information​.
  • Outstanding presentation, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills​.
  • Strong Microsoft suite skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint​, Visio is a plus.

Education: ​

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required with outstanding academic record​.

Experience Required:  ​

  • 10 years+ of professional experience in a fast-paced, self-driven role, preferably within the alternative investment industry.
  • Deep and broad understanding of investor lifecycle, including onboarding, maintenance and winddown.
  • Experience leveraging technology to improve internal processes, including identifying a solution, implementation, training and ongoing ownership.
  • Experience working with a CRM and maintaining data in a CRM, Salesforce is a plus​.
  • Experience in data room set up and ongoing governance, Intralinks is a plus​.
  • Spoken or written multilingual proficiency is a plus.

Reporting Relationships

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$225,000 - $265,000 / annum
