About the Job:

As a Platform Engineer, you will help us extend and scale LaunchDarkly's engineering and product infrastructure. You will build platform tools and leverage innovative cloud technology to bring joy to your end users - LaunchDarkly developers. You are a builder that’s passionate about multiplying our engineering force through automation, cloud technologies, and productivity tools, which enhance the developer experience.

LaunchDarkly is a rapidly growing software company with a strong mission and vision carried out by a talented and diverse team of employees. Our goal is to help teams build better software, faster. You'll join a small team from companies like Atlassian, Intercom, and Twitter, and you'll have an immediate impact with our product and customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with other engineering teams, product, and security to drive continuous improvement in the development lifecycle by identifying and eliminating bottlenecks, optimizing workflows, and automating tasks to increase developer velocity.
  • Hands-on technical leader able to leverage deep infrastructure and systems engineering skills to contribute to high-quality code, conduct thorough code reviews, provision services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and develop designs that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and security of delivery systems, ensuring they meet both current and future demands.
  • Proactively evaluate and recommend tooling, pipeline optimizations, and feedback mechanisms to enhance developer productivity and streamline operational processes.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of automated solutions that facilitate the creation of new services, incorporating infrastructure, code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and observability frameworks to enable rapid, reliable delivery.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with product delivery teams to anticipate and prepare for upcoming challenges, contributing to strategic planning and the development of innovative solutions that contribute to business outcomes and minimize risk.
  • Take ownership of troubleshooting and resolving complex issues within delivery pipelines, keeping a strong focus on maintaining high-availability, fault-tolerant systems that ensure a seamless release process.
  • Stay at the forefront of platform engineering trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices, applying thoughtful solutions to optimize infrastructure and delivery processes in alignment with evolving business goals.

Qualifications:

  • Have previously worked in a SRE, platform engineer, product engineer, systems engineer, or developer productivity engineer role.
  • You possess excellent communication and collaboration skills. You play well on a small, tight-knit team.
  • You are a self‐starter and problem solver, willing to solve hard problems and work independently when necessary. You identify potential problems and nip them in the bud before they surface.
  • You are a driver of large complex technical projects involving multiple stakeholders and moving them successfully to completion.
  • You have a passion for reducing toil for yourself and your colleagues, and love solving problems with scripts and automation (e.g. with Python and Bash).
  • You have successfully run large-scale production systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • You are familiar with running systems with a distributed service-oriented architecture. This includes operating tools and platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, Consul, Istio, and AWS ECS.
  • You have extensive experience codifying infrastructure with tools like Terraform and other configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • You have deep experience with the full lifecycle of software delivery from local development to production and can create solutions in these areas to reduce developer friction.
  • You have strong proficiency in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools like GitHub Actions, CircleCI, GitLab CI, Spinnaker, and ArgoCD.
  • You have written software in languages like Go or Python.

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences are preventing developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages

  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts

  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize

  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types

  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability

At LaunchDarkly, we believe in the power of teams. We're building a team that is humble, open, collaborative, respectful and kind. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
