Stealth Start-up | Social Media and Editorial Content Manager | September 2021
We’re looking for a Manager of Content and Social Media to join our team. We are a startup (currently in stealth mode) building a new way to discover books through all of the lively and enriching conversations they inspire. This is a rare opportunity to be a major force in introducing the voice and content strategy for an early stage brand entering the market. Our small founding team, led by the co-founder and former President of Artsy, includes Artsy’s longtime head of product and design, experienced engineers and data scientists, and a former publisher — spread out across three continents. The Manager of Content and Social Media will collaborate with all stakeholders in the business including Product, Customer Success, Community and Marketing. Most of all, you will amplify the voice of a team that is passionate about our driving purpose: connecting people through books.
About the Role:
We are building hybrid human-AI technology that finds and serves up personalized book recommendations and book talk from across social media, podcasts, and the Web — all in one app. The person in this role is responsible for daily curation of the most compelling and fresh conversations about books in both the app and our social media channels. In addition, s/he will help build out our original content strategy and facilitate community-building across all channels. Specific responsibilities include:
-
Research and curate content from social media, podcasts and other sources in order to produce daily highlights of short-form book content in the app
-
Own and operate our social media platforms including scheduling content, community management, and optimizing posts for engagement
-
Commission original content and manage editorial workflow
-
Partner with Customer Success and Marketing to ensure that user and customer touchpoints are consistent and aligned with brand narrative and tone
-
Report on social media performance on a weekly and monthly basis to identify insights and establish KPIs.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate is, first and foremost, passionate and knowledgeable about books and has broad cultural interests. An avid social media user who is fluent in cultural trends and the ideas cycle, he or she is able to act on emerging conversations and cultural moments on behalf of the brand. The candidate is able to curate and produce content with agility across a range of subject matters.
The person in this role has owned and operated social media for a brand or organization in the culture space, and brings a deep understanding of platform tools, analytics, content management and strategy. S/he takes a creative and entrepreneurial approach to how we will turn online discussion of books into opportunities for brand engagement and community growth. The candidate thrives in a startup environment and has experience working with fast-paced media or consumer brands. Specific qualifications include:
-
4-7 years experience including experience owning and operating high-growth social media accounts, ideally in the culture or publishing space
-
Experience with social media campaign management and editorial project management including daily production workflows
-
Extensive knowledge and understanding of social media platforms
-
Proven ability to solve problems creatively; extremely resourceful
-
Proficiency with e-mail service providers as well as social and content management tools such as Tweetdeck, Sprout, Hootsuite, Canva, etc.
-
Creative and collaborative work ethic
The following are not required, but special consideration will be given to applicants who have:
-
Experience with publishing or book sales
-
Conversational or fluent Spanish (a large part of our team is based in Argentina)
Position is open to candidates in any location. Special consideration might be given to candidates in New York.
