Help us transform and grow local commerce content on our three premier free sites!

Hearst Newspapers is looking for a Manager Performance Content in an exciting hybrid role that couples editorial expertise with a business development skill set. We are looking for a candidate with experience in service journalism and is comfortable managing third party content partners, freelancers. You should have a track record of successfully developing and executing a content strategy and calendar. The work is currently published on several HNP sites, including SFGate.com, Chron.com and MySanAntonio.com.

What Will You Do?

  • Ensure approximately 60-80 stories are published per month on sites across the Hearst Newspapers portfolio.
  • Create and execute a commerce content program by framing the strategy, onboarding and supervising freelance talent, and managing the content that comes in via content partners.
    • Create a content update strategy and cadence
    • Assign, edit and publish new seo evergreen round ups in discrete categories
    • Oversee a portfolio of third-party commerce content partnerships, while proactively identifying new collaborations that enrich our existing verticals, add new content verticals, and optimize partners' monetization opportunities.
    • Assign, edit and publish News/Deal oriented content focused on the local market.
    • Ensure all work meets the highest quality standards while also meeting KPIs
  • Use data analytics and SEO tools to track performance and inform future work
  • Work collaboratively across teams, including business intelligence, editorial, commerce, revenue and product.
  • Manage freelance content calendar, assigning, and invoicing.
  • Assist in the management and growth of third party content partnerships

What will it take to be successful?

The successful candidate has a high editorial metabolism and an understanding of affiliate marketing, affiliate networks and how to drive and optimize revenue using editorial content. The candidate best fit for this role has experience writing, editing and producing exceptional digital content along with assigning work and managing a network of contributors and content partners. You should be committed to journalistic excellence while also having mastery of SEO best practices. This position reports VP of Commerce and Business Development.

  • 5+ years of digital editorial experience; with at least two years of experience in a commerce journalism environment
  • Experience developing and executing an SEO-focused content strategy
  • Analyzes data to drive decision making
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the digital media environment and how to create winning, trusted content from conception to publication
  • Experience creating and executing a play book for deals and sales events
  • Impeccably organized, detail-oriented and operations-minded with excellent project management skills
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work with others and independently
  • Flexible thinking with a proven ability to be nimble and adjust quickly to trends, news cycles, and a constantly changing work environment
  • Experience with content operations and a proven ability to manage contributors
  • Comfort navigating a new CMS and training others to do the same
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Looker, Google Search Console, SEMrush, AirTable, AP Style or similar
  • Strong communication & collaboration skills
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

The estimated base salary for this role is $95,000 - $110,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law.

This role requires the position to be located in New York, NY with an in-office presence of 3 days a week.
