The REDAPL team is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee our Datastore Serving sub-team. REDAPL is Datadog's main platform for tracking our customers' infrastructure resources and relationships. The Datastore Serving team will power resource queries across a diverse range of datastores, including PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch, supporting numerous Datadog products.
This position will play a critical role in driving the future of our data infrastructure and ensuring the highest level of performance and reliability for our systems. As the team is also quickly growing, you will also be involved in hiring the best candidates for this team.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Leadership: Drive the vision and strategy for the team, ensuring alignment with the overall goals
  • Team Oversight: Provide guidance and support to the Engineering ICs, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
  • Technical Excellence: Ensure the team maintains high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability across all systems and services
  • Innovation and Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement within the datastore and serving domains, promoting best practices and new technologies
  • Talent Management: Lead hiring efforts to attract and retain top talent, ensuring the growth and development of team members through mentoring and professional development opportunities
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other teams and stakeholders to align on priorities, address challenges, and deliver high-impact solutions


Who You Are

  • You have 2+ years of experience as a technical people manager with strong mentorship skills. An ideal candidate will have experience in career development, performance management, tracking and optimizing team efficiency, OKRs, and hiring
  • Have proven experience managing teams that shipped and operated business-critical systems
  • Have demonstrated ability in designing, building, and operating distributed systems to solve problems at scale
  • You are an excellent communicator and collaborator, able to work effectively through complex technical problems with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Possess excellent teamwork, communication, and technical problem-solving skills to contribute to multidisciplinary teams
  • Efficient in optimizing team workflows and processes to enhance team output and collaboration
  • Known for balancing fast iteration, strategic ambiguity, and high-quality outcomes in a dynamic business environment
  • You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
