Manager I, Engineering - Metrics Query Execution

The Metrics Query Execution team is responsible for ensuring reliable and efficient execution of all types of metrics queries (monitor evaluations, notebook/dashboard queries, SLO evaluations and more) for our customers. Our systems execute hundreds of thousands of queries per second, with sub-second latency, against different storage backends in multiple datacenters around the world and are always working to add new query capabilities.
As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and growing the talented software engineers on the team, as well as partnering with other EMs and product managers to develop and deliver a roadmap that expands query features and improves scalability, reliability and cost efficiency.

What You'll Do:

• Manage a team of software engineers ranging from new grads to senior engineers, focusing on career development, inclusivity, and high impact.
• Be a technical leader of the team; while the role will not involve frequent hands on coding, you'll be reviewing architecture decisions, RFCs, and pull requests and ensuring what the team ships is high quality.
• Work with engineering and product leaders to define well-prioritized OKRs and roadmaps to maximize the team's impact.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team and ensure a culture of operational excellence.
• Run and optimize team processes, ensuring the successful delivery of high quality work

Who You Are:

• You are an excellent leader with strong interpersonal skills, and you have the ability to build and lead high-performing teams, mentoring junior and senior engineers to help them grow their careers
• You've built and operated distributed systems/query engines in production
• You have a track record of delivering high-quality software products on schedule and collaborating closely with product management and design teams to set the vision and strategy for your projects
• You are experienced with being on-call, leading incident responses, writing post mortems, and driving remediation efforts.
