About The Team
At Grubhub Fulfillment, we are responsible for delivering orders efficiently with a strong focus on providing an excellent experience to our diners, restaurants and drivers. In this role, you will manage the data science team responsible for the models that underpin our delivery systems. These models provide critical estimates about inputs to the system such as how long a delivery might take to deliver and how delivery drivers might respond to offers that we make. This team also answers questions about how to make the systems more efficient and how to accommodate new business opportunities. The team is not afraid of dealing with ambiguities of the problem space. Solutions are not built in a vacuum but in close collaboration with business stakeholders, engineers and product team members and only after understanding the context.
About The Role
As the Manager of Data Science, you will play a pivotal role in driving our data science initiatives and shaping our data-driven strategy. You will lead a team of skilled data scientists and work closely with cross-functional teams to extract insights from data, develop predictive models, and drive actionable recommendations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence decision-making, drive innovation, and make a significant impact on the success of our company.
Impact You Will Make:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data scientists, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster their professional growth.
  • Set clear objectives, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.

Data Strategy and Planning:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute the company's data science strategy, aligning with business goals and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data science techniques and technologies to drive business value.
  • Develop roadmaps and timelines for key data science initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader organizational priorities.

Data Analysis and Modeling:

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of advanced analytical models and algorithms to solve complex business problems.
  • Guide the team in conducting exploratory data analysis to uncover insights, trends, and patterns in large and complex datasets.
  • Apply machine learning, statistical analysis, and other quantitative techniques to derive actionable insights and recommendations.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, marketing, and finance, to understand business requirements and translate them into data science solutions.
  • Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business partners, providing strategic guidance and thought leadership on data-driven decision-making.

What You Bring To The Table:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years experience managing and motivating a team of data scientists, providing mentorship and career progression and planning in a formal setting.
  • Experience leading data science teams in a fast-paced, agile environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables simultaneously.
