ROLE SUMMARY
This leadership role is responsible for implementing enterprise-level vision and strategy defined by the individual TA categories across the data sciences disciplines (cross TA category support of biometrics - statistical functions of methodology, translational science, real world evidence, outcomes research and non-clinical, programming, and advanced quantitative and data sciences) from both the scientific and operational standpoint. The Head, Data Sciences & Analysis is accountable for coordinating excellence in biometrics sciences, supporting the influence of statistics within Pfizer and externally, and is empowered at a level commensurate with discharging these accountabilities. The individual TA category statistics will be accountable for the TA development strategy and will not be reporting into this role.
As the head of Data Sciences and Analytics within Research & Development, this role serves as the functional leader over these organizations and is responsible for operationalizing the TA category strategy, delivering all work-products within the scope of these disciplines to enable the progression of Pfizer's clinical portfolio from nonclinical through Phase IV (statistics) and from Phase I through Phase IV (programming) across all therapeutic areas.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a Data Sciences organization that delivers on mission and vision
- Build excellence and innovation in data sciences
- Provide leadership and vision in supporting the strategic direction of data sciences and analytics functions, consisting of cross TA support of biometrics - statistical functions of methodology, translational science, real world evidence, outcomes research and non-clinical, programming and advanced quantitative and data sciences, globally within a matrix environment
- Provide support, as needed, to TA category Statistics leads on strategic, high quality and influential representation of Statistics within TA/Category portfolio committees, and Protocol Review Committee.
- Provide high-quality statistical and programming support to nonclinical, early and late phase development teams
- Provide AI/ML expertise and support on deployment of scientific and operational advanced analytics solutions within R&D.
- Provide analytics support for the development of novel digital endpoints across TA categories.
- Provide statistics and programming support for health economics and patient reported outcome measures, and real world evidence studies.
- Support the TA category statistics leads on employment of innovative study designs and the best statistical practices for data analyses, interpretation, and programming in order to maximize value of our medicines
- Drive consistency and alignment through the sharing of best practices, guidance, and standards across all the statistics and programming functions within Pfizer and CROs.
- Allocate and manage the optimal use of resources within the biometrics functional lines, seeking opportunities for efficiencies through optimization of business processes or use of technology platforms
- Provide support for TA category statistics leads, as needed, to engage with Health Authorities from a standpoint of scientific excellence, integrity and credibility
- Recruit and retain a diverse, highly skilled, motivated workforce across all areas supported: build a culture of engagement where colleagues understand how what they do contributes to the main effort
- Ensure project delivery by CRO's, including setting and enforcing expectations for quality control best practices
- Ensure compliance with relevant SOPs, laws and regulations globally
- Provide leadership of enterprise level projects and initiatives
- Encourage publication of innovative science and statistical application
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Statistical Sciences
- At least 15 years of management experience including work in a global environment
- Strong leadership, influencing, negotiation, and management skills
- Track record of successfully leading large groups within complex matrix organizations through periods of significant organizational change
- Track record of project delivery in an outsourced model by taking accountability for effective oversight of CROs
- A track record of sustained delivery and innovation within the discipline
- Project and resource management experience - both staff and financial
- Track record of influencing external environment as evidenced by committee membership, presentations and publications
- Regulatory expertise: Demonstrated experience and success providing timely and quality statistical contributions and scientific reporting of clinical trials for regulatory submissions; demonstrated success in supporting drug products and programs with regulatory agencies
- Project/process management: Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional processes
- Systems Technologies: Strong understanding of the state-of-the-art technologies to evaluate and leverage them into improved business processes for worldwide deployment and adoption
- Written and verbal communication skills: Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
- Budget / expense management: Demonstrated ability to manage large and complex budget; history of staying on or under budget
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $315,000.00 to $525,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 45.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
