About Sunset
Sunset helps tech startups shut down. We’re the 1-stop shop for dissolutions, handling all the legal, tax, and operational burdens that go into winding down. We make sure founders and investors avoid penalties, reduce liabilities, and can immediately move on to what's next.
In 1.5 years, we’ve helped over 175+ Venture-backed startups shut down, are generating millions in revenue, and raised $1.5M from some of the world’s best entrepreneurs and investors.
About the role
We’re looking for a top 1%, founding full-stack engineer who is excited about contributing to a range of features serving founders, investors, lawyers, tax professionals, and our internal operations team. Your work will directly influence our company’s speed, execution, and scale. You’ll tackle complex fintech, legal tech, and project management automations, which are critical to our dissolution services. You’ll collaborate on UI/UX enhancements that streamline workflows, increase transparency, and build trust with both our clients and partners.
This role is for you if:
-
You’re full-stack: You have a passion for both front-end and back-end work, and you can translate initial ideas or rough wireframes into fully functional, polished features.
-
You thrive in uncharted territory: You relish ambiguity and are eager to shape new solutions from the ground up. You’re comfortable making bold, timely engineering decisions and turning them into reality.
This role is not for you if:
-
Mission: You aren’t excited by Sunset’s mission of helping founders find what’s next
-
Early-Stage: You’re not interested in early-stage startups
-
NYC: You don’t live in NYC or want to move to NYC
-
Office: You don’t want to work in person, 5 days a week
-
0-1: You haven’t got a new project off the ground on your own before - from A → Z
In the first 6 months, you’ll:
-
Learn: Immerse yourself in everything Sunset, our customers, and the dissolution process. You’ll gain a comprehensive knowledge of our products, services, and industry landscape.
-
Ramp: Get comfortable with our stack and product development process. Familiarize yourself with our codebase, development tools, and deployment procedures.
-
Refine: Start improving our existing features to cement your understanding of our product and customer
-
Expand: Build completely new features and systems to support our core and developing business lines. This could include creating automation tools for legal processes, developing integrations with financial systems, or implementing new analytics capabilities to track the efficiency of our shutdown services
What success looks like in this role
-
You're fully integrated into the team and contributing significantly across all areas. You can take on more complex projects, mentor new team members, and play a key role in shaping our product roadmap and technical strategy.
