About the Role and the Department

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our finance team at Catchafire. The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing financial data, managing financial processes, and supporting operational efficiency. This position requires a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

    • Month-end close activities, including reconciliations, accruals, and posting journal entries
    • Preparing and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements
    • Manage invoicing and billing
    • Support the Director of Finance in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and documentation for tax and audit filings
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data to internal and external stakeholders 
    • Support the development and monitoring of annual budgets
    • Track and report on budget performance, including variance analysis
    • Assist departmental managers in managing their budgets and expenditures 
    • Streamline financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial operations and implement best practices.
    • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational performance.
    • Ensure adherence to financial regulations, tax laws, and internal controls.
    • Assist in the preparation of audit, tax, and regulatory filings.
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks to protect company assets.
    • Assist in financial projects, providing data analysis and insights.
    • Participate in system implementation and upgrade projects to enhance financial operations.

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
    • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
    • Ability to keep accurate and organized records
    • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and challenges that arise from evolving business models.
    • Proactive in identifying issues and developing effective solutions.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
    • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive team environment.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA or bookkeeping certification) is a plus.
    • Minimum: has goals or is intending to become a CPA
    • 2-4 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, operations, or a related field.
    • Experience with financial software (QBO, Bill.com, Rillet, Brex or equivalent) is preferred.
    • 501(c)(3) accounting experience is a plus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, particularly Excel and Sheets (advanced functions).
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards.
