We are building the monitoring and security platform for developers, IT ops teams and business users in the cloud age.
The Role
The Director of Engineering for Visualizations at Datadog will lead and elevate the data visualization offerings across multiple product lines, fostering collaboration among teams and understanding customer needs to drive product innovations. Responsibilities include managing teams, developing leaders, and influencing product strategy within the cloud observability space.
Summary Generated by Built In

The Visualizations org at Datadog owns all data visualizations in the Datadog platform, which are a core part of Datadog's cloud observability offering. It is part of the Graphing group which is responsible for core surfaces including, but not limited to, Dashboards, Notebooks, and Sheets.
We are looking for a Director of Engineering to take this organization to the next level, who can bring strong technical leadership and data visualization expertise to identify and prioritize challenging problems with a cross functional approach, and maintain Datadog's position as a leader and innovator in the cloud observability space.
In your role, you will build deep partnerships across engineering and product management to influence a fast-growing product space. You will build and operate teams responsible for Datadog's suite of data visualization products including the extended product experience across multiple product lines, working cross-functionally with the objective of elevating our data visualization experiences across the entire Datadog platform.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You'll Do:

  • Own the vision and delivery for the data visualizations across multiple product lines.
  • Coach, mentor and grow leaders in your area to evolve your org.
  • Partner with multiple product orgs to build a product-first mindset while resolving complex platform-level features.
  • Build relationships with customers and understand their pain points to build and drive the product forward.
  • Support multiple product lines to elevate the visualization experience across newer personas.
  • Foster the culture of innovation that has made Datadog a leader in the cloud observability space.

Who You Are:

  • You've been responsible for building and/or rolling out a large scale product platform change solution across a large engineering organization and stack. In this role, you should have managed teams of around 30 with the added complexity of managing managers.
  • You have a deep understanding of the challenges involved in developing data visualization platforms, and care about how we present high cardinality datasets to customers while working closely with product and design to define solutions.
  • You've developed engineering leaders and teams who provided critical services for engineering. You've developed and hired talent in a group, motivating people by creating long-term plans for growth.
  • You've been able to drive strong consensus and build solutions in a space for which nobody has declared "ownership", convincing people to move forward into a new governance model and advocating for the value this will create.
  • You've developed strong relationships with product owners (internally or externally) and you've negotiated and advocated for your requirements, created gap analysis and tactical plans to keep a productive relationship with the products and solutions your team depends on.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our Internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
