What we're looking for

The Director of Accounting will report directly to the VP of Finance and have overall responsibility for Perchwell's accounting function. As a Series B startup revolutionizing the real estate technology space, we need a strategic leader who can build and scale our accounting function. This role will be primarily responsible for the execution of all aspects of accounting including: month/quarter/year-end close, technical accounting/policy development, debt & cash management, AR and AP cycles, financial reporting, financial controls, payroll, tax, and audit.

In this role, you’ll work out of our New York City Office in SoHo, Manhattan 4 days/week. 

What you’ll do

Strategic Leadership

  • Establish, oversee and execute on all accounting operations, including month-end, quarterly, and year-end close processes

  • Develop and implement scalable accounting systems and automation solutions

  • Create the roadmap for audit readiness and compliance

  • Define and optimize the balance between in-house accounting and third-party partnerships

Financial Operations

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across all business units

  • Lead technical accounting initiatives and author comprehensive policy documentation

  • Manage domestic and international tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions

  • Drive process optimization for revenue recognition, equity accounting, and spend management

  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success teams to align accounting operations with business objectives

Team Development

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and strategic partnerships

  • Establish best practices and training programs for accounting operations

Who you are: 

  • 6-10 years of accounting experience, with significant time in high-growth tech startups

  • Big 4 accounting firm background

  • Active CPA certification

  • A strategic thinker with strong business acumen

  • Excellence in stakeholder management and communication

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

  • Track record of driving process improvements and automation

  • Proven track record of managing full-cycle audits with experience helping a company through its first audit 

  • Extensive SaaS accounting expertise

  • Advanced proficiency in: QuickBooks, Bill.com, Avalara, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace

Bonus points for the following

  • Experience with the real estate industry

  • Experience in supporting M&A activities 

Salary Information

To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base salary ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. Our ranges are based on function and level benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including skills, job-related knowledge and depth of work experience. 

The base compensation range for this position is expected to be between $150,000-$170,000/year + equity + benefits.

Note: At this time, we are only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the U.S.

Compensation Range: $150K - $170K
