The role

SoFi is looking for a talented designer with experience concepting and executing designs to enhance an educational content portfolio that includes longform editorial, newsletters, social media, and video projects. 

To be successful in this role, a candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of what makes content engaging across multiple media types and platforms. We’re looking for someone with exceptional design skills who enjoys ideating, concepting, and executing ideas independently and as part of a team. A designer who can illustrate abstract concepts; breathe life into facts and data; and translate complicated topics visually. Experience designing for journalism, personal finance, or financial services will be an advantage. 

Reporting to the Senior Managing Editor, you will join a content team staffed by strategists and creators whose mission is to empower people through financial literacy. This team has a diverse portfolio spanning the written word, audio, and video – all in service of helping people get their money right. In a world of misinformation, our goal is to deliver credible, clear, and compelling intelligence and insight.

What you’ll do:

  • Own end-to-end creative development for a variety of projects across multiple mediums, including but not limited to:
    • Custom visuals/graphics for a wide range of editorial content and video
    • Data visualizations/infographics
    • Short form pieces and more in-depth educational guides
    • SoFi’s owned social media channels
    • Email/newsletter designs
  • Translate and deconstruct complex ideas, data, and information through elegant, compelling, and on-brand design solutions
  • Work in lockstep with creative leadership, designers, copywriters, marketers and other cross-functional partners to refine and turn design concepts into polished creative solutions

What you’ll need:

  • Passionate about our mission and committed to producing excellent work.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • A solid portfolio that showcases exceptional typography, color theory, layout, and design skills
  • Strong ability to ideate and articulate concepts for editorial content
  • Desire to seek out the latest design trends and innovations
  • Commitment to bringing positivity, empathy, and respect to every interaction
  • Comfortable giving and receiving candid, constructive feedback
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

Software:

  • Proficient in industry-standard design software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) Figma, etc.

Nice to have:

  • Bonus points for experience working with personal finance content, financial products and services, and playing nicely with legal and compliance functions
  • Proficiency in Adobe After Effects or Adobe Substance

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
