Your Impact:

As a Data Engineer at Hearst Magazines, you will work with a team of engineers, data scientists, data analysts, and product managers to deliver best in class, scalable and extensible data solutions using GCP and other cloud-based technologies. You will be tasked with designing, building, testing, integrating, managing, and optimizing data from a variety of sources and destinations. The role requires someone who loves data, understands enterprise information systems, has strong business sense, and can put these skills into action.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Work with GCP data products including BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, Dataflow, Dataproc, Dataprep, Data Studio, Bigtable, Cloud Storage, etc.
  • Implement different types of storage (filesystem, relational, NoSQL) and work with various kinds of data (structured, unstructured, metrics, log files, etc.)
  • Implement new and support existing data pipelines (ETL, ELT) and data wrangling procedures using Python and SQL.
  • Tune application and query performance using performance profiling tools and SQL
  • Research, analyze, and recommend technical approaches for solving difficult and challenging development and integration problems.
  • Work with graph databases like Neptune, and Neo4j.
  • Potentially work in AWS cloud services including RDS, Glue, Redshift, DynamoDB, Kinesis, etc.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • You have 3+ years experience as a senior data engineer and are experienced in the Google data services stack.
  • You are experienced working with diverse and large datasets (data modeling & warehousing)
  • You apply software engineering best practices to the data engineering process.
  • You have a desire to learn and continuously improve.
  • You have experience with batch and stream data processing.
  • You have familiarity with agile software development practices and the drive to ship quickly.
  • You have familiarity with digital advertising data and associated technology, e.g. Google Ad Manager and/or other ad servers; Permutive, Krux and/or other DMPs; 1st/2nd/3rd party data, cookies, and other browser storage mechanisms; paid marketing platforms such as Google Ads, Facebook/Meta Ads; web analytics data such as Google Analytics, Adobe Omniture, etc.
  • You have experience building and working with identity graphs

The base salary for this role is between $113,000 and $135,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
