As the Regulatory Strategy Director "RSD" for Asset & Wealth Management "AWM", you will manage complex regulatory engagements that impact the AWM businesses as well as cross line of business ("LOB") regulatory engagements. Reporting to the Regulatory Engagement Manager ("REM") for Asset & Wealth Management, you will manage the team's relationships inwardly, with senior leadership, and outwardly, with the appropriate senior regulators. You will be responsible for the development and execution of the strategy for regulatory engagements within the team and for providing strategic advice and direction to senior LOB/function leaders concerning regulatory matters. This role is highly visible within the organization, through regular interactions with senior business and functional leaders. The position is located in New York City. Some travel, including international, is required.
The Regulatory Engagement Management team at JPMorgan Chase, part of the Regulatory Strategy function, manages regulatory engagements conducted by a variety of banking and securities regulators, including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Securities and Exchange Commission and State regulators. Engagement types include regulatory examinations, focused reviews, ongoing supervision and monitoring, and ad hoc meetings and information requests.
Job Responsibilities

  • Work with REMs and engagement managers across LOBs and functions, and with other responsible parties, to coordinate and drive a consistent message and approach to regulatory engagement coverage within AWM.
  • Manage team's relationship internally with senior management in AWM and functions and engage in ongoing and regular interactions with the regulators and maintaining those key relationships.
  • Develop and report on the top level message around regulatory engagements in AWM and drive that message within the business.
  • Lead and manage complex regulatory engagements in AWM and cross LOB regulatory engagements.
  • Oversee, coordinate and strategically prepare for the recurring ongoing supervision meetings between the various AWM businesses and their regulators.
  • Drive consistent execution of the firm's Regulatory Engagement Standards. Embody and help drive the culture of Regulatory Strategy within our organization: respond to supervisors' requests fulsomely and promptly, identify emerging issues and address and/or escalate them promptly, and document interactions thoroughly.
  • Have an awareness of regulatory activities managed by regional REM teams (in EMEA, APAC, LATAM) and assist in addressing questions/issues to drive a consistent message globally.
  • Provide prompt and thoughtful insights and escalations from regulatory engagements/ interactions to Regulatory Strategy and to senior leaders of the supported functions.
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to functional senior leaders regarding appropriate and transparent engagement with regulators and the remediation of supervisory issues.


Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • 10+ years' experience at a large financial institution, regulator or law firm leading regulatory affairs and/or engagements.
  • BA/BS or similar degree required.
  • Experience in risk management, control management, Compliance, Audit, and/or operational risk.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and lead a team to deliver high-quality results that meet Firm and regulatory expectations in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • The ability to interact with senior leadership in an advisory role while demonstrating strategic and thought leadership on regulatory matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex issues and drive them to resolution with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to challenge senior leaders in the business and the second line of defense.
  • Highly motivated, team oriented, and exceptionally organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • High-functioning analytical and logical reasoning skills, including the ability to quickly digest complex information.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and recommend solutions through clear and concise messaging.
  • Strong presentation and relationship management skills.


Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Advanced degree, such as an MBA or JD, preferred.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
