The Role

The primary goal is to grow the member base by establishing strong relationships with community organizations to improve food security and overall health outcomes.
Summary Generated by Built In

Bento is on a mission to eliminate food insecurity to ensure that lack of consistent access to nutritious food is no longer a barrier to one's health, happiness or pursuit of purposeful life. Over half of all adults in the US have a nutrition related chronic disease, such as diabetes, hypertension or heart disease, disproportionately impacting low income community members. Despite the best intentions of food banks, government food assistance programs and legacy disease management programs, these solutions, while necessary, have not been sufficient to eliminate this problem, which has only gotten worse, not better. As a venture-backed startup, Bento is taking a new approach.

Bento provides members with stigma-free access to convenient and nutritious food that has been curated by a team of Bento registered dietitians and sourced from trusted restaurants and grocery stores in and around our member's community. This not only closes our member’s food insecurity gap and improves their overall quality of life, but also generates the trust and consistency needed for Bento to connect and engage them with the critical healthcare resources needed to improve their health outcomes.

Recently approved by Medicaid as a medically tailored nutrition provider, Bento is rapidly expanding access to millions of eligible at-risk community members through partnerships with state and county medicaid plans.

What We Do

Founded in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles (HQ) and New York and a staff of 40, M13 is a consumer technology venture capital firm. We invest in the seed to series A stages of enabling technology startups that power the future of work, health, commerce, and money.

M13 is staffed with 2.5 operators for every investor so our founders get access to deep operational expertise, tech tools, and an ecosystem that helps them build faster and better. Where we see whitespace in an industry, our Launchpad develops founding teams, products, and practices to incubate and launch an idea from inception.

We believe that advancement is a team mission. Messier 13 (or M13) is one of the brightest star clusters in the Northern sky. It’s full of remarkable individual stars, and when those stars come together, they create something that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts. All of us at M13 contribute to our collective success by being brighter together. Our proven Propulsion platform for success will create more winning companies and demonstrate that when investors and founding teams are aligned on a venture together, we can redefine what’s possible.

Why Work With Us

M13 is one of the brightest star clusters in the Northern sky. It’s full of remarkable individual stars. But when those stars come together, they create something that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts. That’s the M13 advantage.
