ON THE FORE
Translating technical talent into innovation
Chief of Staff Caitlin Swofford holds Zone & Co developers in high esteem. “I like to think of our developers as magicians,” she said of an engineering team whose culture is big on “continual learning.” “They pull the impossible out of NetSuite.” Polishing the company’s ZoneBilling product’s UX and working on additional NetSuite applications are just a few ways they’re wielding their scope. “We have an exciting list of features, enhancements and UX improvements planned for this year which are game-changing, at least in our eyes,” Swofford said.

We’re faced with an incredible mission of getting complex technology into the hands of every financial and IT/systems professional without them needing to be masters of NetSuite.
CHANCES TO ADVANCE
Pursue your goals with leaders’ support
Jurian van Maanen
VP of Sales EMEA
When Jurian van Maanen’s previous employer, Fast Four, was acquired by Zone & Co. last year, he transitioned seamlessly into his current role thanks to the organization’s support: Besides learning from his talented team members, he has leveraged the LearnUpon online training platform and has met with an internal product expert to familiarize himself with the organization’s technology. Having experienced his own professional evolution, van Maanen strives to pay it forward by providing his direct reports with opportunities to stretch their skills. “I always try to keep my eyes open to see how current team members can progress and take on larger responsibilities — both in their current role and in other positions,” he said.
It’s really important that we actively look for ways to give people more responsibilities and opportunities to help them develop — and thereby contribute to building a stronger company.
WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU
Tailor your schedule to your needs
With “meeting-free Fridays” and other time-permitting practices, team members are empowered to shape their calendars. That’s key — especially for Sr. Director Knowledge Curation Katie Comstock, who welcomed her first born last fall. Comstock has continued to feel supported after her maternity leave. “The team has been very understanding of the lifestyle adjustments I’m juggling as a new working mom. They were patient with me as I got caught up on things that happened while I was on leave and are encouraging me to build my schedule around my family’s needs,” she said.

The team is very supportive of making sure individuals can step away. They reassure us that we’ve got a whole team of people who are willing to step in to make sure there is coverage wherever needed so that others can unplug, recharge, and enjoy their time away without worrying about things at work.
