Perhaps in some parts of the world life slows down in the last months of the year. But in New York, things heat up — particularly at companies that need new tech talent going into 2024.

It’s not quite time for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade or ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza, but that doesn’t mean places from online insurance companies to direct-to-consumer retailers or the nation’s leading cancer research facility aren’t busy with hiring. The need for people at these 17 companies increases as they grow.

The sprawling tech scene in Gotham is of course strongly associated with its center-of-the-universe financial sector. But other industries beckon as well: personal care, human resources, legal services, marketing and the healthcare sector need people who can guide them with AI, machine learning and other innovative technologies needed to remain competitive. Computer and information systems managers, computer network architects, software developers and data scientists are highly valued and commensurately compensated here.

Needless to say, these companies also offer benefits packages that make them attractive employers as well. Read on to check them out.

What they do: Grubhub helps restaurants grow their businesses and experiment with new concepts through their food ordering and delivery marketplace.

Perks and benefits: GrubHub values work-life balance and community engagement. Some roles enjoy shortened work weeks with half-day Fridays for more leisure time. The company partners with nonprofits to promote social responsibility, and they offer generous FTO and PTO policies. Trust and transparency: Understanding the bigger picture and trusting the team’s capabilities is crucial. “Keep the end goal in mind, especially when the path to get there is unclear. Sometimes this means relinquishing a bit of control and making myself vulnerable to trust that my peers and team members understand my vision well enough to execute it effectively,” explained Head of Cybersecurity Yolonda Smith in an interview with Built In NYC

Smart marketing: Any D2C firm has to be very good at marketing, so quip has a lot to say in this regard. Shane Pittson, vice president of growth, told Built In in a recent article, “One of the things that we prioritized was that we weren’t just selling a product, we were selling a broader experience. Very early on,” he added, “we were looking at last-click attribution through Google Analytics, looking at native reporting from the platforms or the partners that we were testing with and then post-purchase surveys directly from our customers. If we only had one of those points of reference, then the channels and the tactics that we would have prioritized would have been very different. Having multiple lenses to view your performance through helps to construct a clearer picture of what’s working and what’s not.”
