Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: you just found the cutest shoes at the greatest price, and after 10 minutes of wearing them, you’re already in such pain, that you’re considering having your feet permanently removed from your body.

Sure, it’s unlikely any pair of eight-inch platform heels will ever be considered comfortable, but mass-production and standard sizing also contributes to the discomfort our feet feel when wedged into a pair of patent pumps. A new company, True Gault, wants you to never sacrifice style for comfort again — and is bringing this dream to life with their own line of shoes, designed specifically for your feet.

Founded in 2014 by Julian Sanchez and Sandra Gault, True Gault was established with the mission of empowering women. In a 2017 interview with Republic, Gault explained, “Standing in painful designer heels at a party, I realized that no amount of compliments could make me feel at ease. It was then I vowed that every woman deserves a beautiful pair of heels that she could comfortably wear all day long,” she said. “I channeled my three passions — fashion, business, and technology (honed from years spent with Kodak and IBM) — to build True Gault.”

The True Gault app works almost like magic: using innovative tech to create a complete scan of your foot’s unique shape. With that information on file, users can pick and choose from a variety of stylish shoe options. True Gault allows you to customize your color and fabric in addition to your fit and style, giving consumers literally thousands of options from which to choose.

Once your shoe’s “recipe” is locked down, True Gault then custom-crafts the pair at their workshop in Spain, using top quality materials. Within four weeks, your new heels will arrive at your door, ready for your next meeting, wedding or girls’ night. Need proof for just how game-changing and comfortable a custom shoe can be? Founder Gault said that she has walked more than “1,674 miles in my True Gault heels.”

In addition to being a unique tech innovation, True Gault marks a milestone in the budding custom clothing industry. Washington-based custom dressmaker eShakti.com is finding success with a similar model. While custom fashion requires a little more of a financial investment on both the producer and consumer end, it’s a critical divestment from the rapid-fire of fast fashion, which has proven detrimental to manufacturers as well as the environment. With companies like True Gault gaining more of a presence in the public eye — and fans like legendary fashion editor Nina Garcia — it will be worth following how these trends evolve and begin to affect the fashion industry at large.
