How much do health and fitness companies really value their employees’ well-being? A lot, if you’re at any of these NYC-based startups. Each of these companies encourages their teams to stay active, both as a group and on their own. From boutique fitness classes to group burpees, wellness is a top priority in these offices.
As a fitness nutrition company that prioritizes natural wellness, Revere’s employees like to practice what they preach. We caught up with co-founder and CMO Alexandra Blodgett, who walked us through the team’s emphasis on all things wellness.
What are some fitness activities your team does together?
Typically, we schedule a group workout twice a month with one of our Revere trainers, and recently it’s been spin at Cyc and training at DogPound. We also just agreed to participate in the Heal Our Heroes Charity 5K in Montauk this month. We're not just running — we have to carry and pass a 20-pound bag of sand as a team the entire time. If this isn't going to be a test of our teamwork, I don't know what is.
What’s your favorite memory of working out as a team?
For our Revere launch party, we hosted almost 200 people for a Y7 and DogPound workout outdoors, overlooking the ocean in Montauk. It was incredible to see so many people choosing to sweat with us on the beach in support of Revere. It also proved to us that fitness is the new happy hour. While employees used to share a night of drinking to bond, now they're choosing to take a fitness class. Bonding with no hangover? Everyone feels better.
True or false: Teams who workout together stay together.
Absolutely true. We work out in the morning for some added energy and carry those feelings into the office. It's remarkable the difference a morning workout makes on the rest of our day — productivity is always higher. Also, finishing a tough workout together offers a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment for the group. There is really nothing like suffering through, and completing, a plank series with your team to bring you closer.
HealthKick is a perks marketplace that offers corporate discounts at leading health and wellness companies. Since they give companies access to special deals on things like fitness classes, it only makes sense that employees test them out together. Founder and CEO Erika Zauner told us what that experience has been like.
What are some fitness activities your team does together?
At HealthKick, we are all about mixing it up and scoping out the best boutique workouts our members will love. Every month, one team member gets to choose a new class we go to together. On any given day, you can catch us doing burpees at the Fhitting Room, sweating it out in spin class at Swerve or Peloton or hitting the bag at Shadowbox.
What’s your favorite memory of working out as a team?
This spring, we sponsored a corporate fitness challenge for our clients featuring a class at a different studio partner every week. Even we get into a rut of doing the same workouts over and over, so the challenge forced all of us out of our comfort zone — from trampoline workouts at Bari to galloping across the turf at Tone House. When you can laugh at yourself, be a little silly and try something new with others, those memories really last.
True or false: Teams who workout together stay together.
True! Working out together is the perfect way to engage with your team in a fun way and bond over a shared experience. When you're in a work environment, it can be hard for people to let their guard down, but when you're struggling through a grueling Tone House or Crossfit workout and your coworkers are cheering you on, you realize that no one is perfect and you're always stronger as a team. Group workouts fuel team spirit and collaboration — and well-deserved post-workout drinks!

What are some fitness activities your team does together?
At Aloha, the team sometimes gets together for activities like SoulCycle and Pure Barre.
What’s your favorite memory of working out as a team?
When we moved out of our co-working space and into our own office for the first time, we all did a team SoulCycle class to celebrate such a huge milestone and remind ourselves how far we've come. It helped reinforce the reason why we do what we do: to make people healthier and happier.
True or false: Teams who workout together, stay together.
False — it's important to be active, and when we have social outings we like them to involve fitness, but it's important for our team members to have time for themselves and to work on their personal fitness goals outside of their career goals. Therefore, our employees are encouraged to make fitness part of their daily routine outside of the office. It helps keep everyone focused and engaged!
