Be it a hammock, a closet, or a bustling Midtown Starbucks on a hot summer's day — some people have the ability to get work done anywhere. For the rest of us, stepping into an office each day helps set the tone and get us in gear to get stuff done.
New York City tech takes its office spaces particularly seriously (have you noticed real estate is just slightly expensive?) and some of the most stunning workspaces have flourished as a result. Built In NYC heard from three local tech companies on what exactly makes their office space a special one.
Reonomy puts data to work for the world of commercial real estate. The company’s range of tools help businesses like CBRE, Douglas Elliman and WeWork prospect, market, research and more. Perhaps it’s no surprise that, as a leader in the real estate game, Reonomy’s own digs spare no detail. Director of Talent Devon Satnick walked Built In NYC through some fan favorite features of the company’s office.

The spiral staircase connecting our two floors. It doesn't hurt that right above the staircase is a beautiful skylight bringing all the natural light feels.
What's your team's favorite part of the office? Why?
The 360-degree views of Manhattan! You can see some of the most beautiful elements of NYC on a daily basis: the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, East River, Times Square, Hudson River — the list goes on! You can experience these views from your desk, our Meditation/Wellness room, the kitchen, game room and more.

When did you move in?
We first opened one floor in June 2018 and another in November 2018. Right now, we are working on the interior and roof deck of our third floor to open it up by spring, and our roof deck is slated to be completed this summer.
What's the most unique feature of your office?
The most unique part of the Grubhub office is Slice, our very own in-house restaurant. We open Slice a few times a month, and it's operated and patronized solely by Grubhub employees. Our employees do everything from receiving back-of-house orders, to packaging food for delivery and making sure orders are given to the right diners — all to better understand the ins and outs of running a restaurant so we can strategically drive more business for our restaurant partners.
What's your team's favorite part of the office? Why?
We're lucky to have so many places in our office to get together, whether it's for a meeting or for some kombucha on tap. Our pantry is considered the heart of our space — it's where we meet to eat, take advantage of the unlimited snacks, and even have our town halls. We also have many comfortable areas throughout our office that are great for both collaboration or solo work. And you can't forget the incredible view of Bryant Park!
IEX is America’s newest stock exchange, working to democratize investing one trade at a time. The firm took this into consideration when designing their Financial District space, which is meant to reflect a truly modern stock exchange.

What's the most unique feature of your office?
IEX Group operates the Investors Exchange, America’s newest stock exchange. In designing our space, we wanted to reimagine what a modern exchange and center of finance looks like. Instead of the closed doors, stuffy boardrooms, and traditional architecture of the legacy exchanges, we wanted to create a bright, airy space that represented our transparency and openness as a company. On the 58th Floor of the new 3 World Trade Center, we have 360-degree views of the city and it really feels like you’re on top of the world. The most unique feature in this space is our giant LED-screen with a real-time view of the marketplace activity on our exchange. It is high-tech, modern, and exciting — just like our company.
What's your team's favorite part of the office? Why?
We have a great communal space with long tables and epic views of Midtown. Every Friday we have a “Lunch and Learn” where someone gives a presentation to the company on a topic of interest (relevant to IEX or not!) while the team enjoys a catered lunch. It’s been fun to have a space to gather and enjoy each other's company. Our in-office fitness room is also popular; we have our own Peloton bikes, treadmill, weights, and TRX machine.
