Harvard Business School opens coworking space in Manhattan

This week, Harvard Business School (HBS) announced the opening of the HBS Startup Studio in New York City in conjunction with the school’s Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship. The Startup Studio will function as a coworking space for HBS alumni who are honing their businesses as entrepreneurs in New York. To use the facility, an entrepreneur must be a HBS alumni working in the Greater New York City area or a team must have at least one founder who graduated from HBS. [Built In NYC]

 

AiCure raises $12.3M Series A

AiCure, an artificial intelligence company that monitors patient’s adherence to their prescribed medications, scored a $12.3M Series A this week. The new investment was led by New Leaf Venture Partners, with participation from Pritzker Group Venture Capital, Tribeca Venture Partners and Biomatics Capital. The financing will be used to continue the company’s research and development and build out its sales and marketing and operational divisions. [TechCrunch]

 

Wifi, cell service and charging stations are coming to the New York City subway

Last Friday, Cuomo announced a city-wide proposal that will rapidly redesign New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) to include WiFi hotspots, USB charging ports and mobile payment options. Cuomo’s proposal outlines the deployment of technological improvements across the city’s subway network, which will equip all 277 stations with WiFi service by the end of this year. Cellphone service will be available in the stations by early 2017 and the MetroCard system will be replaced with sensor-enabled turnstiles. [Built In NYC]

 

DataDog scores $95M Series D

DataDog announced a massive $94.5 million Series D round, led by ICONIQ Capital with participation from Index Ventures, OpenView Ventures, Amplify Partners, Contour Ventures and other equity holders. The company plans to use the funding for product research and development as well as expand its international presence in Europe, Asia and the Americas. [Built In NYC]

 

Vericred nabs $3.1M

Health insurance startup, Vericred, has raised a $3.1 million second seed round. The funding will be used to expand the company's data services and offerings while scaling its sales efforts. Seventy-two percent of the first seed round investors participated in the second round. [PR Newswire]

 

WeWork opens first coliving space

Over the weekend, 80 WeWork members and employees moved into the company's inaugural communal living space at 110 Wall Street. WeWork’s newest residents moved into 45 apartment units in the company's Wall Street location, where there are already functioning coworking spaces on the first seven floors. Eventually, the building will accommodate about 600 people throughout 20 floors. [Built In NYC]

 

mParticle raises $15M Series A 

mParticle, a company that helps mobile app-makers consolidate their data, raised a $15 million Series A. Social Capital (formerly known as The Social+Capital Partnership) led the round, and the firm’s partner,Ted Maidenberg, will be joining mParticle’s board of directors. [TechCrunch]
