11 recently-funded NYC tech companies hiring like crazy right now

The first five months of 2016 has brought sizable funding to the city, with investors backing a number of New York-based startups in the form of financing rounds. Here are some of the top companies hiring right now that have received funding this year.

The first five months of 2016 has brought sizable funding to the city, with investors backing a number of New York-based startups in the form of financing rounds. As a fresh influx of funding allows a company to pursue new projects, test new markets and hire more employees, it can be exciting to join a company on the coattails of a funding round. Here are some of the top companies hiring right now that have received funding this year: 

 

 

What they do: Namely is an all-in-one HR software platform for mid-market companies.

Funding news: The company raised a $30 million round from existing investor Sequoia, with support from Matrix Partners, True Ventures and Greenspring Associates. The funding follows Namely's Series C round in June and brings the total funding raised to $107.8 million. The company also announced expanding operations and client milestones, including that it now processes over $2.5 billion in annual payroll, solidifying Namely's leadership position in the mid-market.

What they do: Flatiron Health is a leader in cloud-based oncology software.

Funding news: In January, the company announced a $175 million Series C funding round led by Roche. Participants in the round included Allen & Company, Baillie Gifford and Casdin Capital. Flatiron Health will use the new funding to further invest in its cloud-based OncologyCloud software platform, which includes OncoAnalytics, a first-of-its-kind advanced analytics tool, and OncoEMR, the industry-leading electronic health record for oncology with an integrated patient portal and claims system.

What they do: Hometeam is taking a new approach to senior home care by making it easier for families to locate, hire and manage qualified caregivers. Using iPad technology, family members can keep track of what’s happening in their loved one’s life and send notes and suggestions to a caregiver in real time.

Funding news: Hometeam announced a $27.5 million Series B round in January. The latest funding round was led by Oak HC/FT, a leading venture-growth equity fund investing in healthcare services technology companies. The firm joins existing investors Lux Capital, IA Ventures and Recruit Strategic Partners. Hometeam plans to use the funding to accelerate its medical and technology development as it continues to grow in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.

What they do: DataDog, the leading SaaS-monitoring platform for cloud applications, has helped companies turn their IT data into actionable insight. To date, the company has racked up an impressive roster of clients, including Airbnb, Netflix, Twilio, EA, Spotify and Warner Bros.

Funding news: In January, the company announced a massive $94.5 million Series D round, further solidifying its place in the B2B tech market. The round was led by ICONIQ Capital with participation from Index Ventures, OpenView Ventures, Amplify Partners, Contour Ventures and other equity holders. The company plans to use the funding for product research and development as well as to expand its international presence in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

What they do: Teckst is a platform where businesses can send and receive text messages from their customers. Started by leaders from Seamless and General Assembly, Teckst makes texting businesses as simple as texting friends.

Funding news: In April, Teckst raised a $1.7 million venture round. The company’s overall mission is for every business to use Teckst as its primary form of communication.

What they do: Influenster is the ultimate product reviews platform. Influenster’s UX is sleek and intuitive, which allows shoppers to explore the platform’s robust index of products, which range from beauty items to pet supplies to food. The service currently hosts over six million product reviews and over 1.5 million products on its site.

Funding news: In April, Influenster announced it raised an $8 million Series A round from Ebates, the pioneer and leader in online cash-back shopping. The company plans on using the new funding to better scale their services in order to meet the needs of its quickly growing customer base and product inventory.

What they do: Moat is a SaaS analytics company focused on transforming brand advertising online.

Funding news: Moat raised a $50 million round in March, which was led by Insight Venture Partners. With the new funding, Moat is working on a new measurement designed to help web advertisers and publishers gauge whether people pay attention to digital ads and are impacted by them.

What they do: Appboy is a marketing automation solution for apps.

Funding news: Last month, Appboy announced it has raised $20 million in Series C financing. The company is planning on putting the money toward product development and fast-tracking global growth.

What they do: Whistle Sports is building a sports network for, and with, millennials. The company helps creators produce compelling sports-focused content across online platforms. Currently, the company works with over 400 YouTube creators and social media influencers, and reaches a community of over 170 million people across different social channels.

Funding news: In March, Whistle Sports raised $20 million in a round led by BC Sports Ventures, Emil Capital Partners, Sky and Tegna. Over the last year, the company launched a new series, integrated commercial content into its platforms, and grew out its content partnerships with professional sports partners. The new funding will be used to further develop these initiatives.

What they do: Giphy is like Google search for GIFS.

Funding news: The company announced it raised a $55 million Series C in February, valuing the company at $300 million. The round was led by Lightspeed Ventures, with General Catalyst Partners, RRE, Betaworks, Lerer Hippeau Ventures, CAA and some of Giphy’s early investors participating.

What they do: Seven-year-old Foursquare is a location-intelligence company focused on recommendations.

Funding news: On January 14, Foursquare announced a $45 million Series D led by Union Square Ventures, with participating investments from Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners, DFJ Growth, Andreessen Horowitz and Spark Capital. Today, Foursquare and Swarm have over 50 million monthly active users and daily check-ins are at an all-time high.
