All across New York City, tech companies are searching for fresh talent to bring their innovations to life – especially after having the last year to plant big ideas and nothing but time waiting for the right conditions to sprout.

Throughout the pandemic, city residents relied on everything from restaurant and grocery deliveries to at-home workouts and alternative methods of transportation after the world shut down. And who exactly lay behind each app or request? A tech team extending a hand of relief or support.

Well, NYC has never been one to take things slowly, and as the world reemerges, so too do those previously remote-only teams hungry for growth.

In part one of Built In NYC’s roundup of featured companies, the following seven organizations have set themselves apart from the rest of the pack with their innovative products, unique employee benefits, breakout success stories with name drop-worthy clients, and drive to create change for the better.

There is so much positive energy and excitement within the team about what we’re building and the progress we’re seeing.”

What they do: IEX Group was established as a way to put investors first and eliminate the unfair advantages that exist in today’s stock market.

Overcoming unique challenges: “Real-time streaming data is a very interesting challenge,” Head of Software Engineering Tim Paine previously told Built In. “At IEX Cloud, we’re building a system that can handle millions of concurrent subscribers and deliver massive amounts of data in as low latency a way as possible. Operating at this scale, you often run up against bugs or problems in your code and the services that you use. It is exciting to explore what things are breaking and how they’re breaking.”

Tech toolbox: Engineers work with JavaScript monorepo leveraging React/Redux on the front end, Node.JS/Express for the back end, Redis, Apache Kafka and SingleStore.
