These eight fast-growing tech companies are providing some much-needed updates and fixes to some of our nation's most archaic systems (looking at you, healthcare). But the scope of the work hasn’t stopped them from focusing on the devil in the details or making personal connections through Slack channel conversations and cross-department collaboration — which is why you might want to take a second look at their open positions.

Braze team
Braze

What they do: Braze is a customer engagement platform that allows clients to process data in a feedback loop so they can best reach their audience. They work with agencies, financial services companies, retail businesses and more. They were also recently named one of New York City’s best places to work in a Crain’s feature.

One trait all team members share: “Resourcefulness is necessary in order to be truly successful,” said Zana Thaqi, business development manager at Braze. “It’s a business development representative’s (BDR) role to generate pipeline for the organization. To do this effectively, BDRs works cross-functionally with sales, solutions consultants, customer success teams, and more to research different market trends across a variety of industry verticals.”

Thaqi also mentioned the importance of BDRs understanding target accounts and articulating Braze’s true value proposition. Because their industry is constantly changing, they are looking for team members who are tenacious, persistent, and eager to learn.

One thing that would surprise people about Braze: “Braze is a really large disruptor in our industry and so are a lot of our customers,” said Thaqi. “Brands like Glossier, HBO, Lyft, and Venmo use Braze to facilitate real-time experiences with their customers in a more authentic and human way.” As a BDR, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside the sales team prospecting new customers. That means exposure to high-level executives of large, sophisticated, and innovative organizations.

YieldStreet team
YieldStreet

What they do: YieldStreet makes it possible for anyone to access asset-based investment products. They allow users to create portfolios across markets, including real estate, legal, commercial, art and more. All investments are backed by collateral.

One trait all team members share: “Mobile engineering requires creative and indirect solutions to navigate a resource-limited yet extremely diverse platform,” said David Halsey, senior mobile engineer. “As a result, our team shares the ability to laterally think through problems to come up with the best solution.”

One thing that would surprise people about YieldStreet: Their engineering team is spread across four countries: Brazil, Argentina, Malta, and the United States.

Intent team outing
Intent

What they do: <intent> offers real-time e-commerce predictions. Companies can use their machine-learning based platform to process immediate and historical data. That way, they can better serve their user base, maximizing revenue and loyalty.

One trait all team members share: “If I had to pick just one, I’d say ‘intellectual curiosity’ or what we call ‘wrestling it to the ground,’” said Heather Connell, director of partner integration. “We work with many partners across different industries and no two integrations are ever the same. It takes someone who gets enjoyment out of solving unique challenges and finding new solutions to problems.”

One thing that would surprise people about <intent>: Everyone is extremely kind and compassionate. It’s not the type of environment where everyone has their heads in their computers all day. They have a “one team, one dream” mentality. Leadership genuinely encourages people to bring their full selves to work, creating an inclusive environment that balances fun and dedication.

Outcome Health team gathering
Outcome Health

What they do: Outcome Health is rethinking patients’ point of care. They improve long-term doctor-patient interaction with engagement software like exam room tablets, content and more. Their philosophy? Good care goes beyond the treatment itself.

One trait all team members share: “While there are many traits shared among our deal desk team, we are all primarily problem-solvers,” Deal Desk Analyst Nick Harley told us. “It is our responsibility to close out deals, all while making sure Outcome Health teams and our clients are happy and their needs are met.” The best part about this role is that no two contracts or terms are alike. “Each requires its own flexible and unique approach that ensures we exceed our client’s expectations while not sacrificing our own requirements.”

One thing that would surprise people about Outcome Health: Free, catered lunch! Harley said that everyone from their COO down to deal desk analysts like himself takes time out of their day to sit down and catch up. There is no hierarchy at the lunch table. As Harley has spent more time at Outcome, he’s realized that this camaraderie and culture exists beyond Taco Tuesday: “Cross-departmental collaboration contributes to our ability to build innovative solutions and to keep pushing the business forward.”

Bodhala team
Bodhala

What they do: Bodhala provides transparency and insight into the legal services industry. They offer legal spend analytics, rate review algorithms and recommendations based on big data. Fun fact: The term ‘bodhala’ is Sanskrit for “the illumination of talent.”

One trait all team members share: “I’ve been surprised by how aligned the team is around our shared goals. In my past experiences, there hasn’t always been that level of alignment, resulting in competing priorities, confusion and frustration,” said Sara Mathew, customer success manager. “Given we are all marching to the same drum beat, the team is extremely collaborative and supportive. Everyone rallies around our common causes to get a project over the finish line with the best end result possible.”

One thing that would surprise people about Bodhala: Their 30+ employees hail from four countries and represent more than half of the U.S. states, with different ethnicities, nationalities, religions, and upbringings. But according to Mathew, despite their diverse backgrounds, they share a common love for ‘Pizza and Learn Fridays.’

Mantl team
MANTL

What they do: MANTL’s omnichannel platforms help banks streamline tasks and grow deposits and accounts. They increase net conversion and integrate with over 50 providers.

One trait all team members share: “At MANTL, we support an open and transparent culture that helps foster healthy debate and discourse,” said Lauren Slutsky, VP of people. “We encourage all team members to contribute their ideas and opinions while hearing and learning from others.”

One thing that would surprise people about MANTL: Every week their company sits down together to have an all-hands meeting that ends with shoutouts. “This is a time for people to shout out and recognize team members across our organization for going above and beyond and helping with things big and small,” said Slutsky. “Shout outs at MANTL are authentic and heartfelt and embody a culture of gratitude. It is amazing working with people who really care, appreciate and recognize each other's efforts.”

Lukka employees
LUKKA

What they do: Lukka is a data services provider with crypto-native products. They help businesses make sense of decentralized data so they can improve operations and remain transparent. Lukka offers a middle and back office platform as well as a reference data service.

One trait all team members share: All engineers at Lukka are super passionate about solving technical challenges that come with building software, especially within the crypto ecosystem. According to Software Engineer Jill Weakland, “Whether it's handling complexity introduced by a new crypto asset class or scaling our infrastructure for a large client, our team is eager to propose creative solutions and implement them to perfection.”

Weakland told us that everyone takes the time to research and play with new technologies before coming together and building consensus around solving a problem: “This passion for creativity, exploration, and tackling challenges together truly makes the engineering team at Lukka special.”

One thing that would surprise people about Lukka: Lukka’s company name actually derives from a 15th century Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli, who is considered to be the father of accounting. “Since we build accounting software for clients who trade digital assets, we've adopted Luca as our namesake and informal mascot,” said Weakland. Their team has a lot of fun with it, from creating little Luca/Lukka emojis in Slack to photoshopping memes of old Luca at happy hour. They even have a statue of Luca hanging out in their office.

Ohi team members
Ohi

What they do: Ohi is an intelligent fulfillment platform that provides same-day and on-demand delivery. They help growth-stage companies find fulfillment centers across America, without tying them into long-term leases.

One trait all team members share: “We're incredibly diverse, from numerous countries and backgrounds,” said Ben Jones, founder and CEO. “The thing that we all share is a passion for what we're building, and our ability to ‘get stuff done’ while having a lot of fun.”

One thing that would surprise people about Ohi: “We've never lost an escape room, all of our interns seem to be from Stanford, and half the team is bald,” said Jones. With that in mind, applicants with hair are encouraged.
