You can tell a lot about a company by how they eat. Teams that eat together tend to stay together, and those that eat in front of their computers may not have the best work cultures.
That's not to say a company needs to buy lunch for their employees, but let's be honest — it's pretty nice when they do. Not only is breaking bread with your team a great bonding experience, buying lunch every day can add up. If you eat a Chipotle bowl with a soft drink everyday for a year, you'll be out over $3,525.
Luckily, New York's tech companies tend not to be the sort that skimp on the perks. Here are 9 companies with amazing food-related perks that’ll make your stomach rumble with envy:
What they do: Stack Overflow is a hugely popular website where software developers can learn, share and find a new job.
How they eat: The company boasts two chefs that cook healthy, gourmet meals for employees every day. We've been lucky enough to eat lunch with their team, and our usual lunch has just never seemed the same.
What they do: Trustpilot is all about consumer reviews. Before you buy something online from what could be a shady website, you can check out the company on Trustpilot and see if they're on the up-and-up.
How they eat: Trustpilot has Bagel Mondays, and a free catered lunch every Friday. And, if you’re working late, there is a Seamless dinner allowance. Of course, the company also stocks snacks and takes the team out on happy hours. We're guessing they also shop for onesies together.
What they do: Transfix is applying the Uber model to the trucking industry. If you need a truckload of stuff transported across the country, it's now as simple as pressing a button. Welcome to 2016.
How they eat: Transfix offers employees a daily catered lunch, as well as free snacks and drinks.
What they do: NewsCred is a content marketing platform that provides content publishing, brand awareness and other marketing services to brands.
How they eat: NewsCred goes for variety, and offers an array of snacks and drinks, catered lunches and team happy hours.
What they do: Besides having an awesome name, Poppin is an e-commerce site dedicated to offering really cool office supplies. Don't believe me? Check out this sexy stapler.
How they eat: Poppin got creative with their food-related perks. They reimburse employees $50 a month for money spent connecting with coworkers outside of the office, including happy hours, sushi dinners or non-food related activities. They also offer Monday morning breakfasts, Thursday happy hours and a kitchen stuffed full of healthy snacks.
What they do: Paperless Post is an e-commerce company that lets you send online or printed stationary. Think things like greeting cards, invitations, wedding stuff, etc.
How they eat: Paperless Post offers employees Bagel Mondays, as well as monthly company lunches and a fully stocked kitchen. Above is a garden party they held this time last year at the Gramercy Park Hotel's rooftop.
What they do: Datadog is a SaaS monitoring and analytics platform for IT infrastructure. Basically, they take data from a bunch of different sources and make it easy to make sense of it.
How they eat: Datadog provides their employees with a catered lunch three days a week, as well as a fully stocked fridge and regular group outings.
What they do: Betterment is an online investment company that gives users personalized financial advice.
How they eat: Betterment has an in-house chef that prepares their team gourmet food. When we visited, it looked like sushi was on the menu. The company also has cold-brew coffee and craft beer on tap, as well as a couple of massive kitchens that look like they could be used in an episode of Top Chef.
What they do: Squarespace lets anyone build a beautiful website, even if they have no idea how to code.
How they eat: Squarespace gives employees a catered, gourmet meal every day of the week. Plus, maybe you'll get lucky and Jeff Bridges will wake up long enough to eat it with you.
