New York City is famously diverse — not only does this make for a vibrant and creative culture but a thriving global economy.
While the proportion of people who identify as Latinx or Hispanic in the US is about 19.1 percent, the US census found that 28.3 percent — 2.49 million people — of New York City’s population are Hispanic. In the heart of New York, Movable Ink celebrates its Latinx workforce as influential employees.
As the company launches Hispanic Heritage Month, it does so purposefully and with an intent to inform.
“Our engagement is always rooted in some form of education,” said Carolina Monge, the company’s workplace experience lead.
“Having ERGs and events that represent the Latinx community provides an immense opportunity to nurture, expand and even rekindle the Hispanic and Latin roots that resonate within many of us,” she added.
Built In New York spoke with Monge to see how the company honors its Hispanic employees with a variety of activities meant to educate all team members.
Movable Ink is a marketing tech and artificial intelligence company that accelerates its clients’ marketing performance.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, what is your company doing this year to celebrate and honor the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans throughout history?
Movable Ink has celebrated the invaluable contributions of this vibrant culture through a number of events that cater to our internal audiences with varied preferences. Our engagement is always rooted in some form of education.
For example, we've introduced trivia quizzes, infusing an element of entertainment into daily life while also fostering awareness of weightier matters. This includes shedding light on the challenges faced by non-profit organizations located within marginalized communities across Latin America that greatly benefit from our support.
This year LatINK, the Employee Resource Group created to promote, educate and elevate the Latinx representation across the diaspora of all Latin American perspectives at Movable Ink, will offer a variety of captivating virtual and in-person events throughout September. These include culinary explorations, educational activities and philanthropic endeavors, inviting all Inkers to savor the abundant richness and diversity the culture provides.
What other activities or charitable initiatives do you have planned for Hispanic Heritage Month?
LatINK will host a cooking class, an interactive trivia event, and a wellness-oriented virtual Breathwork session with a Costa Rican therapist, as well as share relevant book recommendations. For a lighthearted activity, we’ll host a fun margarita and mocktail-making class. These month-long events are accompanied by a more profound sense of community, and LatINK will raise funds to support various nonprofits each week.
In addition to the internal events, LatINK also strives to enhance its impact through a series of themed activities in collaboration with nonprofit organizations. For instance, LatINK plans to organize a donation-backed cooking class, allowing Inkers to not only engage in an enjoyable experience but also contribute to a noble cause. Through donations, this initiative aims to support a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential resources like food and shelter to underprivileged communities in Costa Rica.
What are some ongoing programs, initiatives or benefits your company offers to support and empower Hispanic and Latino employees throughout the year?
Having an ERG that represents the Latinx community, regardless of one's geographical location, presents an immense opportunity to nurture, expand, and even rekindle the Hispanic and Latin roots that resonate within many of us, no matter where we find ourselves. For Inkers born and raised in Latin America, this initiative holds the potential to not only showcase talents, education and accomplishments but also to cast a vital spotlight on systemic issues that deeply affect our local communities.

By actively participating in and contributing to an ERG, we extend our support to both local and international Latin and Hispanic communities, empowering their small businesses, services and even channeling donations that might otherwise remain out of reach.
Movable Ink also offers valuable perks, such as Modern Health, a resource that furnishes psychological and coaching assistance universally, catering to our needs no matter our location, and at absolutely no cost to Inkers. Additionally, our Workplace Experience team's Wellness Program delivers targeted mental health resources and in-person and virtual events for specific groups on a monthly basis.
